Position Summary:
The UAF Alaska Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration (ACUASI) is recruiting for a Director of Operations to manage operations, personnel functions, and help safely integrate UAS into the National Airspace System. ACUASI is a world leader in the UAS field, working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the UAS industry to help develop, test and prove equipment and techniques to allow the use of UAS for a variety of missions such as cargo delivery, infrastructure monitoring, and mammal surveys. The successful candidate will lead the day to day operations collaborating with a diverse group of scientists, pilots, engineers, and project managers. Duties:
1-25Management: Serve as acting Deputy Director when the Deputy Director is absent. Coordinate with ACUASI's Deputy Director to prioritize ACUASI operations, provide operational guidance for proposals and ensure sufficient resources for all operations.Essential 25Compliance: Ensure compliance of all ACUASI operations with all FAA regulations contained in 14 Code of Federal Regulations, as well as international, national, state, and local laws. Authorize changes to an operation, based on the conditions encountered in the field, provided the changes are safe and meet all FAA and other laws and regulations.Essential 3-25Supervision: Oversee the operations, including flight operations, of ACUASI including direct oversight of the following core operational department in ACUASI: Pilots, Airspace, Engineering, and Test and Evaluation Manage personnel and equipment, working with the Deputy Director and ACUASI Project Managers to stay within project budgets. Coordinate with Project Managers, scientific faculty and staff to set operational expectationsEssential 4-15Proposal Writing: Collaborate in the proposal writing process by providing input on pilot and platform availability, the feasibility of the effort, and scheduling.Essential 5Additional Pilot Responsibilities: Perform as Pilot in Command, UAS instructor pilot, pilot, or observer for UAS during operations.Essential 5Communication: Develop and present briefings representing ACUASI, including VIPs
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA Second Class medical certificate.
• Understanding and knowledge of 14 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations-FAA regulations)
• Aviation flight experience with unmanned aircraft, remote controlled aircraft and/or manned aircraft.
• Must be a US Citizen per ITAR regulations.
• Speak, read, and write fluent English to ensure accurate communication with VIPs and clients.
• Ability to travel both nationally and internationally.
• Ability to maintain a US passport.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to perform high level leadership to manage all operations and personnel functions of the complex ACUASI team.
Required Experience & Education:
Master's degree in relevant field and five years progressively responsible experience, or an
equivalent combination of training and experience.
A valid driver's license and a clean driving record that is in compliance with UA safe driving criteria.

Salary Information:
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php. New hires will be placed on the https://www.alaska.edu/hr/talent/files/fy23-salary-schedules/FY23_A4_Staff-Salary-Grid_com-Hrly-bi-ann_w-desc-rpt.pdf, Grade 83, based on education and experience.
