A mission-driven Alaska-based nonprofit organization is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Finance Manager to oversee its financial operations, grant management, and compliance functions. This is a confidential search managed through an external recruiter.

About the Role

The Finance Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day financial transactions, monthly and annual reporting, budgeting, audit coordination, and grant fund tracking for a complex, multi-funded nonprofit. This includes managing payroll, indirect cost proposals, state and federal grant compliance, and benefits administration. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a remote setting and is comfortable working closely with both executive leadership and community-based program teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain general ledger, reconcile accounts, and prepare financial statements

  • Oversee grant fund management, budgeting, and reporting (state, federal, and foundation grants)

  • Prepare and submit tax filings and indirect cost proposals

  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary contact for auditors

  • Manage payroll systems and employee benefits, including retirement and insurance

  • Track and monitor cash flow, expenditures, and reimbursements across multiple programs

  • Provide financial reports and updates to the Executive Director and Finance Committee

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)

  • Minimum 3 years of nonprofit finance experience

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit cost accounting

  • Proficient in QuickBooks Online, Excel, Google Sheets

  • Experience managing federal grants (e.g., 2 CFR Part 200 compliance)

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and remotely

  • Occasional multi-day travel to rural Alaska (via boat or small aircraft) may be required
