Position Summary:
Are you looking for an opportunity to showcase your communications skills? The College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP) is searching for a Communications Specialist who will leverage their written and visual communication skills to engage diverse audiences across various media channels. This position is on-site on the Anchorage campus, with the potential for flexibility.
Duties:
15Public/Media Relations ● Seek opportunities to raise awareness about and increase visibility in the community for the College of Business and Public Policy and its mission and purpose. ● Oversee, plan, develop, and disseminate press releases and news stories. ● Assist the dean, and the College of Business and Public Policy leadership team, in speech writing and presentation development. ● Serve as principal contact for media inquiries. ● Work closely with faculty and staff to develop messages responding to media inquiries.Essential 2.5Other Related Duties as RequiredEssential 2.5Professional Development ● Stay current on best practices and technology in communications, digital marketing and social media. and research upcoming trends and techniques for content creation. ● Participate in college, university, and outside training on related topics.Essential 30Social Media Management & Communications Planning ● Organize our social media content and presence, and distribute professional, informative, and creative posts while maintaining standards and branding. ● Monitor communications activities and redirect messages and comments that require a response. ● Assemble and interpret analytics from websites, social media, and other platforms. The data may then be used for generating reports, formulating communications strategies, or other applications. ● Work with the Communication Manager to help develop, revise, and implement communications strategy.Essential 50Content Creation ● Write, edit, and design eloquent and accurate content for our website, social media, newsletters, marketing, brochures, flyers, reports, press releases, presentations, and other communications aimed at increasing awareness of the College and its program and course offerings to constituents. This will include scripting for audio and video. ● Use images and graphic design to support communication messages. This includes an understanding of licensing and permissions, sourcing graphical content and imagery, ensuring content is accessible, interfacing with UAA Advancement, occasional photography, and the use of photo editing and creative design software.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
● Strong writing and verbal communications skills.
● Ability to identify and resolve problems in a clear, effective way.
● Experience using graphic design software such as found in Adobe Creative Cloud.
● Capability to use and manage newsletter and marketing software.
● Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
● Aptitude to learn new platforms and software.
● Self-motivation and can work effectively with remote supervision.
● Ability and flexibility to adapt to changing and emerging needs.
● Familiarity and practice with web and social media communication.
● Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with an orientation toward detail and the ability to work on several projects at one time with multiple deadlines and minimal supervision.
● The ability to handle sensitive, confidential information and be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
● The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with several key stakeholders.
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications in a PC and Mac environment.
Preferred Experience & Education:
Experience or training in professional writing, marketing, graphic design, public relations, journalism, or related areas is strongly preferred.
Required Experience & Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field and 2 years relevant experience, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
Salary Information:
This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php. New hires will be placed on the https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/compensation/files/fy24_staff_salary_grid.pdf, Grade 78, based on education and experience.

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
