Position Summary:
UAA General Support Services is recruiting for the position of Surplus Technician. UAA General Support Services includes the Copy & Print Center, Mailroom/Central Receiving, Surplus & Relocation, Parking Services, and Recycling functions.
Duties:
15Prepare outgoing mail with correct postage and required documents, including use of Endicia, FedEx, and UPS software as well as meter machine software. Apply all relevant policies and regulations related to UAA operations as well as USPS, FedEx, UPS, and HazMat processing. Assist customers in person and over the phone and advise as to most efficient and cost-effective methods to meet their needs. Process payments. Sort incoming mail by department and name. Deliver campus mail to each department, including assisting with off- campus courier route. Use of package scanning system. Pick up University mail from Post Office and sign for Express and Certified packages.Essential 5Assist on an as-needed basis in other areas such as Copy Center, Central/Receiving, Bulk Mail, Bindery, Relocation Services, and Property/Surplus. Assist in the training of new employees and student workers as requested.Essential 80Pick up and delivery of surplus property items, to include adhering to pick up/delivery schedule, ensuring all appropriate paperwork is completed and forwarded/filed as required. Advise customers regarding required paperwork and provide guidance. Provide authorized disposal, destruction, or recycling services of surplus items. Interpret and apply all applicable UAA and UA system policies, procedures and regulations related to handling and disposal of property. Assist with surplus sales to include preparation and organization of items and customer service on the day of the sale. Participate in inventory documentation and preparation of items for posting online to internal reallocation and public online auction website. Assist in posting items to the online sites and assist customers with questions over the phone, via email, and through the online message system. Provide moving services for small to medium sized office relocations within UAA. Serve as a steward of university property, always striving to guarantee the security and good condition of property and adherence to UAA, UA, and State of Alaska property requirements. Answer customer questions with the ability to problem solve using sound judgment. Refer complex inquiries, unusual requests, or concerns to Surplus & Relocation Lead or General Support Services Director.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Excellent customer service skills to include strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Intermediate computer operations knowledge.
• Ability to interpret and apply complex rules, regulations and policies.
• Hire contingent upon successful background check and driving record verification.
Preferred Experience & Education:
Preferred two years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Experience & Education:
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Alaska Driver's License (must meet and maintain UAA safe driver verification criteria).
Salary Information:
This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php.
