Position Summary:
This is a 12 month/year position, 40 hours/week, $19.23/hour. Starting ASAP. The daily hours: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm (This takes into account an hour lunch). Position requires flexibility which will include some evening and weekend hours. This position is not eligible for relocation benefits.
Duties:
-Successful candidate will provide custodial services, minor and routine painting of both interior and exterior of buildings, plumbing, and other related maintenance activities. Maintenance and labor services to the Kenai Peninsula College. -Perform floor maintenance including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, carpet spot cleaning, carpet shampooing, floor stripping and waxing. -Remove trash from rooms and buildings, and grounds. -Operate vehicles including maintenance vehicles, snow removal equipment and yard maintenance equipment. -Change light bulbs, change air filters and lubricate mechanical equipment. -Perform task in a safe manner including responding to and cleaning up potential biohazards and body fluids with an appropriate disinfection material and procedures. -Perform ground maintenance including but not limited to lawn and plant care and other exterior maintenance removal of snow and ice from the exterior paths, walkways, and parking lots. -Assist facilities maintenance as assigned in laborer capacity. -Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other structures. -Operates and maintains pipe systems and relates hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, making minor repairs and/or replacement of components. -Sets up and operates hand tools and equipment, motorized equipment, agricultural tools and equipment, and small to medium sized trucks, tractors, or vehicles. -Uses files, requisitions, and work orders, including computerized systems, to maintain inventories. Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins and performs periodic inventories. -Monitors existing boiler systems for proper environmental conditioning, and reports issues. -May be required to act as a Lead for other similarly classified employees and/or employees in lower classifications. -Other duties as assigned.Essential
This position will be located at the Kenai River Campus situated on 309 acres along the banks of the beautiful Kenai River, the ancestral homelands of the Dena'ina Athabascan, Ahtna Athabascan, Alutiiq/Sugpiaq and Eyak peoples. The area is known for its wildlife splendor, mountain viewscapes, world-class fishing and hunting, hiking, canoe trails and winter outdoor adventure. And yet, Anchorage, Alaska's largest city is just a 2.5-hour drive or 20-minute flight away.
KPC offers two-year Associates of Arts and Associates of Applied Science degrees, as well as courses leading to occupational certifications and UAA baccalaureate degrees, such as Psychology, Art and Anthropology. The college has 24 full-time faculty, 55+ staff, 15+ student employees, and 65+ part-time faculty each semester. KPC enrolls more than 1,800 students/semester.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
-Must possess strong customer service skills, interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills to work effectively with a diverse population of customers and fellow employees.
-Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
-Ability to complete forms, institutional paper work, training and other necessary administrative tasks in both a hard paper and electronic digital format.
-Knowledge and ability to use hand tools, including brooms, mops, brushes and shovels to complete assigned custodial tasks.
-Displays effort and commitment to performing work and operates effectively within the organizational structure.
-Accepts directions and feedback from supervisor and follows through appropriately.
-Works when the schedule begins, and ends work as expected.
-Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
-Ability to work various schedules that may include early morning, evenings and weekends hours.
-Demonstrated work history in positions of responsibility and trust.
Additional Positoin Details:
-Commercial facilities custodial tasks, including bathroom cleaning and sanitation, floor, wall and furniture cleaning, and removing trash and hazards that may be present in the building.
-Use of manual and power commercial cleaning equipment including floor scrubber, carpet extractors, vacuums, mops, brooms and brushes.
-Grounds maintenance including but not limited to removal of snow and ice from the exterior paths, walkways, and parking lots, lawn and plant care, sweeping and other exterior maintenance.
-Working around chemicals commonly used when cleaning commercial/ institutional facilities with or without reasonable accommodation.
-Performing tasks in a safe manner including responding to and cleaning up potential biohazards and body fluids with an appropriate disinfection material.
-General labor assignments such as operating and maintaining commercial facilities.
-Operating vehicles, snow removal equipment, yard maintenance equipment.
Required Experience & Education:
High school graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicant must possess a current, unrestricted Alaska driver's license or be able to obtain an unrestricted Alaska driver's license within 60 days of accepting the job. Salary Information:
This is a full-time, non-exempt, Local 6070 Union represented, staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php. New hires will be placed on https://www.alaska.edu/hr/labor/labor-relations/local-6070.php#collapse3d13e356 Grade MSW3 starting at $19.23, based on education and experience.
