Position Summary:
The Alaska Adult Education (AAE) Instructor will organize, prepare, teach, and advise adult learners in the subjects of English as a Second Language, GED, literacy, computer literacy, workplace preparation, and life skills online and in person to small groups of adults, youth and at-risk students.

Duties:
10Develop relationships with individuals in local human service organizations for outreach, referrals, and student case management. Refer students to local services as needed. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the public. EssentialEssential 40Utilize intrusive advising methods, establish and maintain individual education plans for students through assessment and conversation to determine appropriate instructional strategies for student success. Complete intake procedures on each student, document student progress and performance, and follow up on goals. Maintain student files according to federal, state, and grant requirements, including weekly attendance entry. Ensure compliance with federal, state and campus rules, regulations, and policies.Essential 50Organize, prepare and teach a variety of subjects that may include: basic math and English, science and social studies for the GED, English as a Second Language, civics, computer literacy, life and job skills. Work with a teaching team to develop an individualized plan of instruction for students that may include online, one-on-one and small group instruction for adults, older youth and at-risk students. Assess students' academic levels, learning challenges, and goals to determine appropriate instructional strategies for student success. Create original and modify existing instructional materials and utilize standards-based curriculum. Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best instructional practices. Ability to travel by car and/or small plane to teach in remote villages.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
-Knowledge of characteristics and ability to skillfully present to adult learners, at-risk youth and students with varying degrees of life and employability skills.
-Utilize best practices in the instruction of adults and youth in the classroom, individually and in small groups.
-Effective interpersonal and writing skills, collaboration, and organization.
-Well-developed ability to plan, manage and deliver classroom and individualized instruction both face-to face and online.
-Knowledge of multilevel academic and teaching strategies.
-Work closely with a team in planning and executing instruction and student case management.

Preferred Experience & Education:
-One year or equivalent teaching/tutoring/training in adult education, English, math, ESL, or workplace preparation online and/or in the classroom.
-Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
-Experience in case management or demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail for student intake, tracking student data, maintaining files, grant reports and student progress.
-Teaching experience utilizing instructional technology.
-Developing relationships and collaborating with students, staff, human service agencies and the public.

Required Experience & Education:
Bachelor's degree in education, social services, human services, or related field.

A valid drivers license and driving record that meets UAA requirements.

Salary Information:

This is a part time, non-exempt, temporary position with a salary starting at $22.36, based on education and experience (temp grade 78).
