JOB SUMMARY

The Light Duty Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on light-duty vehicles and small equipment used in construction operations. This includes pickups, trailers, small generators, compressors, and other support equipment. The ideal candidate will have basic mechanical knowledge, be safety conscious, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect, diagnose, order parts and complete repairs to construction support vehicles and other mobile and non-mobile assets.
  • Application of PC diagnostic software in completion of repairs and maintenance. 
  • Adjust, repair, and replace engines, fuel systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering, and transmissions.
  • Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic and electric tools, and instruments.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication and oil changes in accordance with maintenance schedules.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose and ensure operating efficiency.
  • Communicate needed repairs and level of action required to Equipment Superintendent. 
  • Perform welding repairs as needed for completion of repairs. 
  • Support HSE processes and Haz-Req programs. Assume personal accountability and responsibility to ensure all tasks are performed safely. 
  • Present safety concerns to Leadership’s attention. 
  • Travel to / from remote locations and job sites.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Inupiat culture. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Exceptional time management skills.
  • Familiarity with hazardous waste regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to deal effectively with a variety of interpersonal relationships and situations.
  • Ability to work varied hours with overtime as needed, including weekends and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Two (2) plus years experience as a Light Duty Mechanic 
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

Preferred

  • Associates/Certificate in Automotive Technology 
  • Applicable trade school or training
