Position Summary:
University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Operations Grounds Shop is looking for an individual to be a part of the crew that maintains the campus during summer and winter. This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys being outdoors most of their workday and must be willing to work in adverse conditions in both seasons. You will be responsible for supporting the successful operations of the general services provided by Facilities Services Department of Operations to UAF campus. This recruitment is open internally to current UA employees or those otherwise eligible to apply for internal postings.

Duties:
Provide for campus beautification and safety by; caring for ornamental trees and shrubs, production and care of annual and perennial flowers, snow removal and sanding and a full range of other landscaping maintenance tasks. Install and maintain landscapes including interior plants capes, identifies and eradicates pests as necessary; and operates tools and equipment. Assist in the training of temporary workers. Performs laboring or other semi-skilled duties including drilling, digging, assists tradesmen when directed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1. A valid Alaska Driver License is required to hold the position.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a commercial setting in all types of landscape maintenance including but not limited to; ornamental tree and shrub care, production and care of annual and perennial flowers, greenhouse operation and procedures, interior plant scraping, pest identification and eradication, basic horticultural principles and snow removal is required.
3. Experience in equipment usage should include; trucks, tractors, loaders and tools common to the trade. Knowledge of small equipment including; riding mowers, tillers, push mowers and snow blowers.
4. Ability and willingness to work in outside weather conditions.
5. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management.
6. Reasoning : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Preferred Experience & Education:
Previous experience within the grounds maintenance or construction trades is preferred but not required to obtain an interview, as long as your resume and references demonstrate a well-established work ethic and ability to learn.

Required Experience & Education:
Must have and maintain a Valid Driver License.
Three (3) years multi-trade experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Information:

MSW3 Step 1 - $18.53/hour
