Position Summary:
UAF's Community and Technical College is seeking a Tenure Track Assistant Professor to join the growing Aviation Department. The successful candidate will teach a variety of aviation maintenance courses, assist in curriculum development and provide academic counseling. The position supports the University of Alaska Fairbanks CTC's bipartite mission of performing teaching and public service. Duties:
This position carries a full-time instructional workload to teach a variety of aviation maintenance technology courses in a manner consistent with the specific course content guide description to meet certificate and degree requirements of the program. Faculty are also expected to provide academic counseling to students, hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught, and be proactive in developing and modifying curriculum for delivery in assigned teaching modalities. Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, program marketing and development, grant writing, text evaluation, course revision, and development of web-based courses, as well as involvement in community service, and on advisory and search committees.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students and ability to work as a team player.
The following knowledge, skills and abilities are required:
Basic computer competency.
Demonstrated oral/written communication and presentation skills.
Ability to teach vocational theory and skills to aviation maintenance students.
Theoretical and practical knowledge of maintenance and repairs of certificated aircraft under Federal Aviation Regulations.
Ability to work effectively with the Federal Aviation Administration.
Ability to maintain safety in program delivery and in the Aviation facility.
Preferred Experience & Education:
Extensive experience, under the Federal Aviation Regulations, in maintaining a variety (types and categories) of type certificated aircraft in a wide variety of subject areas.
Required Experience & Education:
Current (FAR 65.83) Federal Aviation Administration Mechanic's Certificate with both Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
Eligible for inspection authorization under FAR 65.91.
Salary Information:

Although not required for this position, the following additional knowledge, skills and abilities are preferred:
• Associates Degree or higher in Aviation Maintenance or related field.
• Experience and/or training as an instructor.
• Successful teaching experience in aircraft maintenance.
• Graduate of FAR Part 147 A&P school.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a harmonious relationship with the FAA and aviation community.
• Involvement in aviation community activities.
• Designated Mechanic Examiner authorization (DME).
• Pilot's Certificate.
• Inspection Authorization (IA).
• Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR).
• Inspection or Quality Assurance Authorization.
• Familiarity with Alaskan aviation.
• Experience with rural Alaska and diverse cultures and learning skills.
• Experience with computer-based aviation maintenance technical data.
• Other FAA certificates.
• Experience working under several parts of the FAR's, such as Part 91, Part 121, Part 135, etc.
• Experience working on turbine engines under the FAR's.
• Experience working on a variety of aircraft, such as large aircraft (over 100,000 lbs max weight), small aircraft, helicopters, etc.
UAF CTC offers 40 associate degrees, certificates, and occupational endorsements at 5 instructional locations throughout Fairbanks and the Tanana Valley of Interior Alaska. UAF CTC is responsive to local and regional vocational and technical training needs, and focuses on workforce development to meet the needs of the region and the state. UAF CTC's programs also provide students with the academic framework to help them achieve their higher education goals, whether it is to complete and associate of arts degree or transfer to a baccalaureate program.
In addition, UAF CTC provides career training and development opportunities through workforce development and professional development programs. Staff and faculty have forged close ties with businesses and local agencies, enhancing instruction and increasing job placements.
UAF CTC employs a diverse population of approximately 35 full-time faculty and 200 adjunct faculty who are represented by two unions and a staff of about 35. Approximately 3000 students attend UAF CTC. They are culturally diverse and include many non-traditional students and students from the military community.
