Position Summary:

The College of Business and Security Management is recruiting for a Communications Specialist who will work closely with the Development Director and the Engagement Manager as part of the CBSM Marketing Team.

 

Duties:

1-25Content Creation: Develop and maintain marketing materials to support student recruitment efforts, as well as CBSM projects and events. Materials may include: graphic design, flyers, degree maps, event programs, banners, ads, newsletters, blogs, and other public relations and outreach materials. Ensure publications reflect UAF and CBSM brand identity, editorial, and marketing standards. Write, edit, and evaluate marketing and communication content for accuracy, consistency, and clarity. Advise administration, faculty and staff on written communications to improve and maintain quality of communications.Essential 2-25Marketing Management: Maintain various CBSM websites, adding and updating pages and content as needed. Select photos for marketing and use photo editing software to provide the best size and orientation for the intended purpose. Maintain a photo management system - both in files and on CBSM's photo-sharing platform. Assist with creation of finished videos using video editing software. Mentor student marketing assistants in basic video production and photo management. Upload videos to YouTube and relevant social media platforms; create and monitor program channels on YouTube. Assist CBSM student organizations with marketing needs, providing marketing consultation, graphic design assistance, and distribution of marketing materials. Build the CBSM brand and remain in alignment with UAF brand standards. Order, maintain inventory and distribute promotional items. Maintain, document, and train the marketing team on a file management system to include shared servers managed by OIT, as well as Google Shared drives maintained by the marketing team.Essential 3-20Event Coordination & Support: Assist with planning and logistics for College of Business and Security Management events and projects, including Business Leader of the Year, Arctic Innovation Competition, and other community and student-focused events throughout the year. Responsibilities include graphic design for marketing and event materials, press releases and other event-related communication, website management and updates, ticket sales management, and staffing events. For the Arctic Innovation Competition, serve as primary administrator for the idea submission management software. This position is also the primary point of contact for all AIC competitors - including writing and distributing all communications to competitors, ensuring they are informed about all competition rules and procedures, answering questions, and assisting competitors as needed before, during, and after the event.Essential 4-20Outreach and Social Media: Compose and distribute weekly CBSM e-newsletters to multiple email lists, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Maintain email lists to accurately reflect CBSM audiences. Provide analytics for open rates, bounces, etc. as needed. Manage digital monitors, including creating and uploading CBSM content, uploading content from UAF departments, and sending CBSM content to digital signage managers group for campus-wide distribution. Support the Engagement Manager with CBSM social media postings (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn). Create and publish posts for the CBSM Blog. Maintain a job board for employers to post job openings of interest to CBSM students and alumni.Essential 5-10Public Information Officer: Act as the primary Public Information Officer for the College of Business and Security Management. Represent CBSM on the UAF Public Information Officer committee and attend PIO committee meetings. Submit press releases and public service announcements, following release policies and procedures established by the University Relations department.Essential

The Communications Specialist implements the marketing, advertising, promotional, and public relations efforts on behalf of the College of Business and Security Management. The CBSM Communications Specialist manages and coordinates a wide range of activities, from print advertising to special events. This position assists with the coordination of various events, creates and updates web pages, designs professional brochures and other promotional materials, and performs other duties as assigned. Duties also include assisting the Development Director with donor relations, including writing/editing letters and proposals to donors. The successful applicant will have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

 

This is an in-person position; however, there is the possibility for up to 25% remote work.

- Ability to create and maintain websites using content management systems such as WordPress and Modern Campus

- Capacity in photo editing, graphic design, and video editing

- Ability and willingness to work occasional nights and weekends as needed.

 

Typical Experience:

A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, public relations, and graphic or website design.

 

Required Education or Training:

Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, graphic design, public relations, journalism, communications, or a related field.

An equivalent combination of training and experience, or extensive experience in marketing, public relations, graphic or website design may be substituted for the educational requirement.

 

Salary Information:

 

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php.
