Our drivers are often the first impression a guest has of our company. We prefer applicants who are genuinely welcoming and have an innate desire to share relevant and accurate natural and cultural history and interpretive information while safely navigating the roadways and providing exceptional guest service.
This position is a great way to build skills and make the jump to guiding. When you aren’t picking up rafting or fishing shuttles or driving guests to and from the airport you will assist with maintenance, landscaping, and other camp projects so strong preference is given to applicants with skills they can apply when they are out from behind the wheel.
Likewise, experience driving with trailers, buses or a Class “C” CDL is a plus.
We have multiple driving positions. Some assist with our multi-day guided trips and others pick up raft guests and lead airport shuttles. For certain driving roles, we fund, train, and facilitate your Class C CDL with Passenger Endorsement.
This position pays $16.00-$19.00/hour depending on experience, and offers free food and housing. Housing includes individual canvas and wood wall tent w/ communal amenities on site of main lodge along the Upper Kenai River.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Exceptional guest service and ability to problem solve.
Flexibility and accuracy in dealing with complicated logistics and scheduling.
Cheerful and enthusiastic attitude, punctuality, dependability.
Ability to work both independently and within a team structure.
Willingness to learn and share the natural and cultural history of the area.
Neat and clean appearance.
Ability to live and work in a communal, camp-like atmosphere.
Independently loading heavy and awkward items like luggage, coolers or boxes weighing 50 lbs. or more and safely participating in group lifts of rafts and motors that can weigh more than 400 lbs. are regular and essential duties of this position.
PREFERENCE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WHO POSSESS:
Experience driving large vehicles, 15-passenger vans or CDL passenger vehicles. Experience trailering boats or heavy loads.
Class "C" Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement or equivalent.
Ability to obtain a Class "C" CDL with Passenger Endorsement during training.
Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen and participate in a random drug and alcohol screening program as required by the DOT.
Demonstrable interpretive experience.
Mechanical, construction, landscaping, or other complementary skills.
Advanced medical certifications.
