Yukon Equipment is Alaska's oldest locally-owned heavy equipment dealer, supporting construction projects with sales, rentals, repairs, and parts for a wide range of machinery. With store locations in Anchorage, Wasilla, and Fairbanks, we sell and repair backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, trailers, forklifts, and everything in between. What can you expect?
As the Sales Manager, you work onsite in Alaska and will lead and develop the sales team to drive revenue growth and expand market presence across construction, landscaping, mining, and related industries. You will oversee sales strategy, forecasting, pricing, territory management, key and government accounts, and CRM utilization to ensure consistent and high-quality customer experience. You will partner with internal teams, manufacturers, and customers to support effective sales execution, provides ongoing coaching and coverage support to the sales team, and uses market and performance insights to drive continuous improvement and long-term growth.
How will you do it?
- Achieve sales growth and revenue targets through effective leadership and management of the sales team.
- Design, implement, and monitor strategic sales plans to expand the customer base and strengthen existing relationships.
- Collaborate with leadership team to align sales strategy with company financial goals, inventory levels, and growth initiatives.
- Analyze market trends, competitive activity, and customer data to adjust sales strategies and tactics.
- Lead or participate in strategic planning initiatives related to market expansion, new product introductions, and channel development.
- Prepare and present sales reports, forecasts, and performance metrics to senior leadership.
- Contribute to annual budgeting and sales forecasting processes.
- Develop action plans that identify specific targets, timelines, and sales potential.
- Establish and monitor sales performance standards, KPIs, and accountability measures for the sales team.
- Provide ongoing sales training, coaching, and performance feedback to support professional development and results.
- Support sales staff with customer relationships, including resolving escalated customer issues when needed.
- Provide sales coverage for Territory Sales Managers during travel, vacation, or workload fluctuations.
- Identify and pursue new equipment and service opportunities, including customers not currently assigned to sales territories.
- Market equipment to buyers outside assigned territories and through non-traditional channels, including non-U.S. buyers, wholesale brokers, auction houses, and consignments.
- Manage key and government accounts to ensure customer satisfaction, compliance, and long-term partnerships.
- Support contract review and negotiation activities, including pricing structures, terms, and compliance requirements.
- Participate in pricing strategy development, discount approval processes, and margin management to support profitability objectives.
- Partner with interdepartmental teams to ensure accurate and complete customer documentation, supporting a seamless sales and rental experience.
- Manage incoming leads, assign them appropriately, and track lead sources to maximize marketing effectiveness.
- Oversee the management and utilization of the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to ensure accurate data, reporting, and pipeline visibility.
- Ensure compliance with Company standards for presentations, proposals, documentation, and professional conduct.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of sales materials that accurately reflect Company products and services.
- Maintain strong technical and product knowledge to support effective sales execution.
- Monitor competitor products, services, features, and market positioning to better position Company as an industry leader.
- Communicate customer feedback, market intelligence, and new opportunities to internal stakeholders.
- Represent the Company at industry events, trade shows, and key customer engagements as needed.
- Attend required training sessions, sales meetings, and Company functions.
- Plan, coordinate, and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously including special projects as assigned.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Functions:
This position will supervise the Territory Sales Managers.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of sales strategies, forecasting, pricing, and profit margin analysis.
- Ability to develop and execute strategic sales plans aligned with organizational goals and market conditions.
- Knowledge of territory management principles and sales pipeline management.
- Basic understanding of sales and marketing skills and drafting sales agreements.
- Skill in negotiating pricing, contract terms, and customer agreements while protecting Company margins.
- Ability to do basic math: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and find percentages.
- Understanding of industry best practices within construction, heavy equipment, automotive, or related industries.
- Ability to analyze market trends, competitive data, and customer insights to drive data-informed decisions.
- Ability to manage sales activities within departmental budgets.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
- Ability to establish, track, and evaluate sales performance metrics (KPIs) and team productivity.
- Ability to coach sales staff through complex sales cycles and escalated customer situations.
- Ability to actively listen and provide high-quality customer service.
- Ability to do business ethically with customers, vendors, and co-workers.
- Ability to exercise resourcefulness in assisting customers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage customers and prospective customers to identify business needs and sell Company products.
- Excellent analytical and technical skills with the ability to apply information to Company products.
- Proficiency with CRM systems and business software applications; ability to learn new systems.
- Ability to read, interpret, and prepare reports, proposals, and technical documentation including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and project coordination skills.
- High attention to detail with effective follow-up and recordkeeping.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to learn and understand the Company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ability to work in a Native Corporation multi-business environment.
- Ability to represent the Company professionally at customer meetings, industry events, and trade shows.
Who is Yukon Equipment looking for?
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Minimum of six (6) years of sales experience required.
- Demonstrated experience learning and explaining technical product features required.
- Valid state driver’s license and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Company’s Driving Policy.
- Ability to pass drug, driving, and background screenings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field preferred.
- Sales experience in construction, heavy equipment, automotive, or related industries preferred.
- Prior experience leading or managing sales teams preferred.
Working Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Yukon Equipment has a fast-paced multi-tasking office environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. At times, work is performed outside of the office at indoor and outdoor job sites.
