The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), School of Preventive and Therapeutic Sciences seeks an innovative, energetic individual who will work in the UAA Dental Hygiene program. The faculty member appointed to this position will provide advising to prospective and current Dental Hygiene students as well as didactic, laboratory, and clinical education to students enrolled in the Dental Hygiene program. The faculty member will contribute to the structure and daily operation of the program and clinic, including organization, administration, periodic review and evaluation, continued development, and general effectiveness of program curricula.

 

This position requires didactic and/or experiential teaching experience, along with a commitment to student-centered learning, student engagement, and teaching excellence. It also requires experience working in multicultural settings, advising students, assessing learning outcomes, and the ability to support the mission of the College of Health and UAA. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as computer literacy, are essential.

 

Strong instructional skills to effectively teach Dental Hygiene (DH) courses, adapting to both classroom and laboratory settings.

A collaborative mindset to contribute to a supportive academic environment, and work effectively with colleagues, students, and community partners.

A commitment to student success, fostering engagement and supporting learners in achieving their academic and professional goals.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

• A master's degree or higher in dental hygiene or related field by time of hire

 

• Current (or obtained by time of hire) Alaska Dental Hygiene or Dental License

 

• Current (or obtained by time of hire) Alaska certification in Local Anesthesia (or Alaska Dental license)

 

• Basic life support certification or equivalent by time of hire

 

Preferred Credentials:

 

• State of Alaska Dental Hygiene Restorative Function endorsement

 

• State of Alaska Dental Hygiene Nitrous Oxide certificate

 

Position Details:

 

This is a term-funded, represented, 9 month per year position complete with both a competitive salary and https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php. Salary is based on the level of academic appointment, applicable academic preparation, and experience.
