General Functions:   

The Early Head Start (EHS) Health Coordinator is responsible for implementing the health service area for all EHS children, including child care partnerships. This position provides services to families in need of medical, dental, nutrition, and disability services and meets health needs by providing referrals and follow-up. This position provides health education opportunities to children, families, and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the implementation and oversight of health and safety regulations and procedures, as required by EHS performance standards and municipal childcare licensing. 
  • Maintain EHS database(s) to ensure compliance with head start requirements, including well-child and oral health exams, immunization records, medical home, and child developmental screening.
  • Schedule and attend relevant health and safety meetings with internal and external partners (HSAC, CITC H&S, and others) as directed by the supervisor.
  • Perform daily health and safety checks and assist in the Clare Swan Early Learning Center (CSELC) facility's day-to-day maintenance.
  • Conduct and document monthly, quarterly and annual required emergency drills and inspections for CSELC facilities and vehicles.
  • Complete vehicle maintenance and safety checks and documentation.
  • Monitor daily attendance and send electronic communications to families of student absences.
  • Maintain student health records and provide notification to families of upcoming health requirements, providing referrals and additional assistance as necessary to meet these requirements.
  • Coordinate health and safety training/informational events for staff and families.
  • Maintain inventory of center supplies to support health and safety and coordinate ordering with other CSELC coordinators.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to regulations and procedures.
  • Other duties as needed and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in in Health Administration or related medical field. Relevant experience may substitute for the education requirements on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three years of experience in data entry and data tracking.
  • Have or be willing to obtain Health Services Administrator Credential (Head Start University) within one year of employment.
  • Valid Alaska Driver's License and be insurable under CITC's automotive insurance requiring a driver to be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able provide current health report.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of state and federal background checks. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Former or current Head Start parents are encouraged to apply.
  • LPN/RN license
