Executive Director


Position Summary:
This position provides day-to-day leadership and management functions for Chickaloon Village Traditional Council (CVTC). The Executive Director works to ensure programs are adequately funded and that project/program objectives are fulfilled. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position with benefits.


•Provides Leadership: The Executive Director is responsible for direct supervision of the Department and DivisionDirectors, Human Resources Manager and Executive Assistant. Effectively utilizes financial, human, and materialresources and actions to accomplish short-term and long-term goals identified in CVTC's strategic plan. Inspiresand motivates staff members to accomplish program/plan objectives and promote unity and teamwork within theGovernment. Provides continuous guidance and mentorship to all direct report staff members. Collaborates withdirect report staff members on innovative solutions for day-to-day and complex operational challenges. Conductsand documents routine performance assessments and appraisals on direct report staff members. Actively works toprevent and resolve relational challenges by demonstrating cooperative, respectful, and professional behavior andcommunication with direct report staff members and external contacts. Promotes optimal service to Tribal Citizensand community members through effective leadership of all CVTC departments.
•Technical Responsibilities: Seeks or directs staff members to seek funding for projects/programs thru variousfoundations, corporations, Tribes, federal, state, and borough agencies as identified in CVTC’s Operational Plan.Assists staff members in writing funding proposals and contracts. Provides staff members with technical supportand final review prior to the submission of funding proposals. Assists staff members by providing technical supportfor completing funding reports, as necessary. Effectively collaborates with the CVTC Chair and Vice-Chair tocomplete CVTC special projects including working on Denae Development, the Tribe’s for-profit entity. Updatesexisting and develops new CVTC policies and procedures.


•Personal and Professional Development: Identifies opportunities and participates in on-going personal andprofessional development. Participates in CVTC Ahtna language and cultural activities offered, wheneverpossible. Completes other duties as assigned by Council Chair.


Qualifications: A minimum of five years of supervisory, leadership, and/or human resource management experience. Experience with project management, technical writing skills for grant and contract writing. A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business management, or related field is preferred, but could be substituted for four additional years of progressive experience. AN/AI PREFERENCE: As allowed in P.L. 93-638, preference for employment will be given to Alaska Natives and American Indian Peoples. CVTC also has a local hiring preference.

Chickaloon Village is a drug free workplace. New hires for this position are subject to pre-hire drug/alcohol testing. This position will also be subject to a State & Federal background check. This position requires the ability to be insured on the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
