Wage: $22.00/hour, 8 to 16 hours per week, up to 13 weeks
Duration: Mid-August 2025 – November 2025
Position Summary:
The Native Village of Eklutna (NVE) is seeking a part-time Environmental Technician to assist the Land and Environment Department with habitat and salmon surveys along the Eklutna River. This position involves a combination of fieldwork and data management, including minnow trapping, DNA collection, water quality and temperature testing from the river to the inlet mouth, and salmon spawning surveys during seasonal runs. The role is physically demanding, requiring walking up to 8 miles per day, wading in fast-moving water to collect habitat data and count fish, and carrying equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
Fieldwork will be conducted in bear and moose habitat, with exposure to biting insects and varying weather conditions. Most work will occur during normal daylight hours and may involve the use of UTVs for site access. The technician will work closely with NVE Land and Environment staff and must strictly adhere to all safety protocols. This is a part-time, seasonal position limited to a maximum of 250 hours. Place of employment to be located at 26339 Eklutna Village Road, Chugiak, Alaska 99567, and in the field. Work hours will vary depending on the duties of the job. Office hours are 9am-5pm M-F. Occasional longer workdays may be needed.
REQUIRED: All applicants who will be working with Native families and children must pass a State of Alaska and Federal Criminal background check and possess a valid Alaska Driver’s license with a good driving record and proof of insurance upon hire. A State of Alaska Interested Persons background check will be required at the time of hire.
