Position Summary:
Looking for an opportunity to work in a diverse and stimulating academic environment? Come work at the beautiful Egan Library! The Egan Library at UAS is recruiting for a Library Assistant (Interlibrary Loan and Outreach Services) to join the library team. In this position you will connect students, staff and faculty with materials essential to their research and creative projects. You will coordinate events in the library and you will serve as the social media specialist.

Duties:
15Institutional Repository -Monitors UAS publications and evaluates the availability and suitability of each for inclusion in the Institutional Repository, mailto:Scholarworks@UA. -Makes recommendations for new content to the Technical Services and Outreach Services librarians. -Scans print documents and captures digital documents for the repository. -Performs quality checks to ensure digital products meet national and international standards for access and preservation. -Creates metadata descriptors for UAS publications and publishes in the IR site, mailto:Scholarworks@UA. -Serves on the IR team and participates in planning for future IR initiatives.Essential 15Reference Services -Staffs the reference desk 8-10 hours per week including a weekly shift allowing the library management team to meet and occasional weekday evening (until 9pm) and weekend shift coverage. -Conducts reference interviews, assists library users with the use of online and print library resources and with computer and some technology problems. -Responds to email, virtual chat and telephone requests for information and assistance in using library electronic resources.Essential 20Collections Support -Cross trains with the Library Assistant (Serials & Collections) on Serials Processing and Collections Maintenance tasks including: Mail sorting and physical serials processing, Electronic Resources Management, and other crucial serials collection maintenance as determined by the Technical Services/Acquisitions Librarian. -Assists with collection development and maintenance through review and weeding of library collections in coordination with the Technical Services/Acquisitions Librarian. -Recommends titles requested via Interlibrary Loan that cannot be filed or that are frequently requested to the Technical Services/Acquisitions Librarian. -Repairs physical items in-house and assists Technical Services/Acquisitions Librarian with determining other courses of action for more severely damaged items (e.g. bindery, discard, replace, etc.)Essential 25Interlibrary Loan -Daily management of interlibrary loan workflow (lending and borrowing) and related information systems. -Communicates with patrons and other libraries to address problems or provide status updates for requested materials. -Coordinates with Outreach Services Librarian to identify e-learning students for targeted library services communications. -Maintains and reports ILL statistics (monthly and annually). Compiles borrowing and lending statistics as well as use by e-learners. -Creates and modifies Interlibrary Loan related web forms, email notices, mailing labels. -Files an annual Interlibrary Loan copyright clearance report. -Keeps current on library databases and professional literature on interlibrary loan trends. Recommends improvements to ILL service, provides and participates in staff training and networks with ILL staff at other libraries. -May provide training in relevant areas (mailing procedures, use of CLIO, OCLC WorldShare ILL, SIRSI Workflows and other related systems, microfilm readers, scanners, etc) to circulation student assistants when opportunities to work on ILL or other when opportunities to work special library projects events occur.Essential 25Outreach Services Support Serves as Primary Coordinator for events held in the Library. -Interprets library policy, coordinates with the Library Director and Public Services Librarian and other campus stakeholders (Facilities/Janitorial, ITMedia Services). -Participates in library and campus committees/discussions related to marketing and event coordination. -Creates marketing materials for library events and services. -Assists with mailing and processing of circulation and ILL related materials which have increased significantly with participation in the Alaska Library Catalog (ALC) consortium. -Curates library displays to feature rotating collections relevant to upcoming campus events, monthly cultural celebrations, new library resources or services. -Provides orientation in facility safety for outside organizers hosting events in library. -Identifies potential safety issues before they are problems. -Social media management (Instagram, Facebook, & Twitter accounts).Essential

Seeking a paraprofessional library position with a variety of job duties? The Egan Library at UAS is recruiting for a Library Assistant (Interlibrary Loan and Outreach Service) to join the Outreach Services team, and serve as the lead for interlibrary loan and event coordination, with support in social media, collections and reference.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
-Computer competency skills- familiar with basic spreadsheets, database programs and cloud-based applications.
-Written and oral communication skills, organizational skills.
-Ability to pay close attention to details is essential- most tasks and processes involve numbers, characters, dates, barcodes, tagged fields, etc.
-Reference skills- familiar with a variety of library print and online resources; use of the reference interview process.
-Excellent customer service skills.
-(Preferred but not required) Previous experience with integrated online library systems, library catalogs, circulation systems, and especially interlibrary loan systems, experience identifying specific records in a bibliographic database such as OCLC WorldCat.

Preferred Experience & Education:
Without previous experience with library systems expect 3-6 months on-job training to be functioning efficiently; less than that if comes with Integrated Library System or other information system experience and is familiar with library services, bibliographic records, call numbers, etc.

Required Experience & Education:
High school diploma or GED and 1-2 years post-secondary education or training- or equivalent work experience. Sufficient academic course work at the high school or college level to speak, read, and write clearly in English. Familiarity with database software and/or cloud-based applications in a library, museum, business or comparable environment.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php. New hires will be placed on the https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/compensation/files/fy24_staff_salary_grid.pdf, Grade 76, based on education and experience.
