Position Summary:
Hiring an Early/Pre-College Advisor to advise potential and current students in the Bristol Bay and Aleutian-Pribilof regions. Work closely with school districts on dual credit classes. Office space is available in Dillingham and Unalaska, this position has a remote option within the Bristol Bay and Aleutian Pribilof Region.

Duties:
1-40Use a strong customer service focus to provide comprehensive advising services to UAF-Bristol Bay Campus students. Assist students in selecting appropriate courses and other educational experiences. Interpreting institutional requirements (academic process, student academic progress, graduation requirements, etc.). Review and use available data about students' academic and educational needs to make appropriate referrals. Referrals may include but are not limited to academic departmental advising, dual enrollment processes, career counseling, and other services supporting student academic success. Maintain adequate advising records on a regular basis. Coordinate tracking and intervention services to targeted students each semester, including but not limited to: students at risk. Work collaboratively with faculty and other university personnel to intervene when students experience academic difficulties. Keep well-informed of current trends in academic advising. In conjunction with the manager of student services, work closely with various departments to support established outreach efforts to target student populations and or assist in developing new or expanded best practices advising efforts. Assist students with learning UA's web-based student services resource. e.q. UAonline, Degreeworks, Webmail, Blackboard Learn, Blackboard Collaborate, and ordering textbooks. Communicate with local funding agencies in assisting students. Work in collaboration with the Financial Aid Coordinator to provide and increase village student access to student aid. Travel to villages to meet with current and prospective students to provide career counseling, program information, course offerings, outreach programs, information for economic and community development training, and education access.Essential 2-30%Maintain adequate advising records on a regular basis. Assist the Student Services Manager in maintaining student records and performing data entry. Assist in maintaining student database for informational tracking of undergraduate degree-seeking students. Keep accurate, timely, and confidential records of every student interaction and update student education records. Generate reports to communicate progress and outcomes to campus and community partners, as appropriate. Keep up-to-date with UA's policies, procedures, and web-based technologies and data tracking platforms. Attend related meetings and professional development opportunities through the University and other Higher Education institutions/ partners. Develop and maintain strong and close relationships with school districts. Know what the school district needs are and coordinate BBC's delivery of services to meet those needs. Create career pathways and follow through by participating in the planning, & offering of workforce development classes.Essential 3-25%Do outreach and recruitment for these classes both in person and online. Provide comprehensive student advising for these classes and connect students to support services. Arrange and/or lead workforce readiness events and other student service events as needed. At career fairs/village travel discuss with students their interests and discuss an academic career plan- for continuing education be that with a University or a Tech school. Coordinate and present available programs at college and career fairs, high schools, and professional meetings.Essential 5%Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Ability to comprehend and apply university policies and procedures as they relate to students, public speaking skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, computer skills, effective listening and comprehending skills, cross-cultural experience, and distance delivery experience.
• Ability to travel on small aircraft and stay several days in villages multiple times throughout the semester.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
• Demonstrated customer service experience.

Typical Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Experience working or teaching in a high school setting. Counseling experience.
• Work collaboratively with organizations within the campus service area.
• Experience with distance learning programs.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Audio & Video Conferencing.

Required Education or Training:
Bachelor's degree in related field and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 9-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php.
