Position Summary:

The Interior Alaska Campus (IAC) is recruiting for a full-time Community Outreach Facilitator to provide services in Fairbanks and at remote communities in the IAC service area. This position will provide support for current and potential students, engage in outreach and work with rural stakeholders to provide courses in remote locations.

Duties:

Coordinate: Plan, organize and direct local courses and workshops, intensives and events. Provide logistical support and coordination for all IAC programs for delivery to all regions. Promote all IAC programs, its mission and services. Organize and meet with local and regional state agencies, various community and constituency groups to assess educational needs and identify resources for the region. Travel to remote sites regularly to meet with students and rural/village leaders.

Student Advising: Provide a wide array of student support services including aid with enrollment, class registration, course recruitment, financial aid advisement and outreach for students within the Interior region to attract students to IAC programs. Work with other IAC staff and faculty to coordinate educational services and outreach. Provide students with information concerning admission procedures and policies. Interpret and apply policies and procedures. Provide placement testing.

Provide in person services at the Harper Building in Fairbanks and in rural communities to aid students in accessing and succeeding in higher education. This is to include but not limited to: showing individuals where to access important information online and resources that would apply to their educational goals, maintain regular contact with students and communities, connect students with the appropriate UA resources as necessary.

Attend training, required grant meetings and collect data as requested by the campus Director and Title III Program Manager

The Interior Alaska Campus (IAC) is recruiting for a full-time Student Services Professional 1 to provide services in Fairbanks and remote communities in the IAC service area. This position will provide support for current and potential students including aid with enrollment, registration and financial aid. Travel to rural communities will be required on a regular basis. The Community Outreach Facilitator will engage with existing and new students and work with community partners to develop local courses.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Familiarity with university systems and student support services. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and with a team. Able to develop & maintain partnerships. Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing. Able to travel to and work in remote/rural communities.

Required Experience:

Minimum of one year experience in university student services, education and/or management or two years of increasingly responsible experience related to program duties or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Education/Training:

Associate’s degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary: Grade 00_77, Step 1, $21.81/hr, DOE, complete with a  UA employee benefits package. UA employees receive excellent benefits including participation in State of Alaska PERS retirement, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.

Term Position:

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
