About the Office:
The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Alaska is a vibrant and energetic office with offices in Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau. Assistant United States Attorneys prosecute federal crimes and defend and pursue the interests of the United States in civil cases. This employment opportunity is in the Civil Division of our Anchorage office.
Job Description:
AUSAs in the Civil Division are responsible for representing the federal government, its agencies and employees in civil litigation. Primary areas of practice are tort cases, including medical malpractice and personal injury cases, Title VII discrimination in hiring and employment practices by agencies of the United States, civil rights, immigration, bankruptcy, debts owed the United States or its agencies, judicial review of administrative findings, and injunctive proceedings. AUSAs in the Civil Division are active at the trial and appellate levels, taking depositions, preparing and answering interrogatories, negotiating settlements, engaging in motion practice, trying cases, and writing and arguing appeals.
Required qualifications: Applicants must have at least 1-year post-J.D. legal experience and maintain active membership of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
United States citizenship is required.
Salary: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $87,000 to $195,200. There is a non-taxable cost of living allowance where authorized.
