Position Summary:
The University of Alaska Fairbanks is looking for a Senior Drafter/GIS Tech. Employee will be responsible for providing a range of Drafting services in support of project needs. This includes data creation, maintenance, updating, and quality control/quality assurance; GIS data entry, attributing, and metadata creation; GIS map production and output; reading and interpretation of maps; global positioning system (GPS) data collection, post-processing and coordination with field staff.

Duties:
10Provide drafting, auditing, and database management and support for the UAF Master Floor Plans and as-built archival process. Edit and update Facility Inventory drawing files as required after renovations, facility modifications, and additions/new construction.Essential 10Support and assist in the biennial Functional Use Space Survey required by Federal Government per OMB Circular A-21 by physically space auditing all 3.5M square feet of UAF campuses, including rural and remote site facilities. Report changes to University Statewide Planning and Budget office in addition to UAF Planning Department. Assist in facility management information database and space management software systems updates. Maintain reporting activities year round for consistent database accuracy, analyzing space planning needs, future building programming and general reporting administrative information for UA needs. Use correct classification coding in Facilities Inventory records according to USD Ed Publication NCES 92-165. Maintain accurate and historical tracking documentation within building files system.Essential 20Through independent work, utilizing subordinate staff, field verify and input as-built data into CAD drawings, assembling as-built data to be inserted from field checks, and filing of data and project records.Essential 25Incumbent will be responsible for providing a range of GIS services in support of project needs. This includes data creation, maintenance, updating, and quality control/quality assurance; GIS data entry, attributing, and metadata creation; GIS map production and output; reading and interpretation of maps; global positioning system (GPS) data collection, post-processing and coordination with field staff. Provide field support management component for setting up and troubleshooting GPS equipment, operate survey instruments and retrieving necessary data. Field work to include surveying and marking property boundaries, and occasionally stake construction tasks. Prepares presentation materials utilizing GIS, CADD and/or graphic platforms. Studies legal records and documents to establish property boundaries, easements, and local areas. Updates and maintains geo-rectified digital UAF map files. Designs and prepares complex thematic, geographic, and civil drawings and diagrams for facilities projects and space management analysis projects, which may include disbursement of personnel and resources, allocation of resources and statistical data for usage. Provide technical support and training to spatial data users and as part of department formal training schedule. Develop and maintain documentation on all technical aspects of the geographical information system development, including version control and within best practices. The individual will be responsible for acquiring, managing and analyzing data, creating high-quality static and interactive maps for presentation and publication.Essential 25Prepares professional quality, detailed drawings of architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical designs, plans, and layouts for new and remodeling projects according to specifications, sketches, rough drafts, and discussions with facilities services architects and engineers. Prepares design review sets from concept through construction documents. Prepares bid/contract documents in a professional manner and in compliance with the engineer of record. Follow established CAD standards in regards to layering, dimensioning, text annotations, and other aspects of computer- aided design. Drawings conform to generally accepted practices and comply with the terms, nomenclature and standards applicable to UAF design standards.Essential 5Assist in the management, administration, and digital archiving of original and historical construction drawings, as-built documents, shop drawings, Facilities inventories, topographic maps, and related electronic files of all completed, current, and future projects concerning UAF, its rural campuses, the surrounding properties, and external construction projects that affect the University campuses.Essential 5Coordinate with Facilities Services project managers and construction to receive and review the required deliverables for project Record Drawings. Assist with final preparation of the record drawings in electronic and hard copy format.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
-Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, courteous, and pleasant manner.

- In-depth skills and knowledge in current versions of AutoCAD, REVIT(BIM), and/or Civil3D drafting software.

- Demonstrated working knowledge of GIS software, especially ArcGIS software suite. Experience producing maps and/or other graphic products and reports with strong cartography skills.

-Working knowledge of survey GPS equipment, systems and software. Working knowledge of land surveying techniques and survey technology.

- Demonstrated working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D software.
Advanced knowledge of building systems (walls, doors, piping), roads and pathways, and surveying preferred.

- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, prints, drawings, and models.

- Demonstrated ability to accurately translate design information into professional drawings.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and questions, and handle multiple tasks using independent judgment.

- Proficiency in operation of personal computers: Microsoft Office Suite and database management required.

Required Experience & Education:
Four to five years relevant experience (including experience in the development and management of record and information management) and an associate degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Drafting Technology, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Extensive experience using CAD and GIS software and working in the drafting field may be substituted in lieu of degree or certificate.) Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Salary Information:
