Job Title:         General Ledger Accountant

Department:    Finance

Reports To:     Assistant Controller

Supervises:      None

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Job Type:         Regular, Full-Time

General Functions:

The General Ledger Accountant performs a variety of routine and non-routine accounting functions with a significant focus on General Ledger accounting.  This position supports the Controller in conducting month-end and quarter-end close as well as maintenance of various balance sheet accounts.

 

Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Process a variety of financial documents within a computerized accounting system, such as financial transactions, invoices, vendor checks, payroll transactions, account statements, authorizations, journal vouchers, and purchase orders.
  • Reconcile bank accounts as assigned.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and analyze discrepancies from sales and payables modules to general ledger balances.
  • Maintain fixed asset listing and calculate depreciation and book value; record additions, deletions, and depreciation; reconcile listing to the general ledger.
  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and follow-up on noted discrepancies.
  • Maintain the cash management spreadsheet and posting bank transactions in the general ledger.
  • Prepare month-end adjusting journal entries.
  • Record investment account transactions and reconcile them to the general ledger.
  • Participate in scheduled internal and external meetings, and training as requested.
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statements.
  • Assist in preparing schedules and supporting documentation for annual financial audits and tax reporting.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned.

  • Demonstrated ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively before various audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, percentages, and graphs.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and/or diagram form.
  • Demonstrated intermediate experience using Microsoft Excel.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. 
  • Two years of general ledger, journal entry, or related accounting experience.
  • Ten-key by touch.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon a satisfactory report from a state and federal background check. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
