Job Title: Eye Clinic Insurance & Data Entry Technician

Job Summary: Job incumbent assures that all optical visits and orders are properly coded and billed; contacts private insurance companies to determine patient benefits; researches denied claim; identification and resolution of problems related to patient accounts and payments. Secondary responsibilities include assisting the Optician and Optometrist when needed in support of eye clinic functions.

Representative Duties: Under general supervision of the Optical manager, incumbent will:

1. Call and verify vision insurance benefits for patients including exams and hardware.

2. Create and drop insurance claims for vision hardware and perform data entry on payments and adjustment transactions.

3. Interact cooperatively with patients having delinquent accounts to promote rapid payment.

4. Work with business office cashier to reconcile all payments, refunds, prepayments and NSF checks with TCC Accounting department each month.

5. Research, edit and re-drop denied/incorrect claims and explanations of benefits (EOBs) in a prompt manner.

6. Enters and retrieves data from Tanana Chiefs Conference and Indian Health Services computer system.

7. Maintains and updates patient records, securing confidential data.

8. Manages clinic's filing and data storage systems.

9. Provide office support as needed including patient scheduling, receptionist duties, data entry, filing, maintaining patient records, managing correspondence and mail, maintain clean and tidy waiting area, and other related office duties.

10. Creating activity and financial reports for the Eye Clinic.

11. Assist Optician and Optometrist with patient care as needed.Other Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED.

2. Prefer knowledge of medical and eye terminology and third party insurance requirements.

3. Knowledge of and the ability to use Windows applications.

4. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.

5. Prefer two years of medical office or eye care related experience and knowledge of insurance billing procedures.

6. Must pass background check pursuant to Federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.

Supervision: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical demands: Sedentary position with extended hours of sitting and operating standard office and computer equipment. Job incumbent lifts and carries ten to twenty pounds in support of supplies. Some kneeling involved. Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a busy and sometimes stressful environment.

Summation: This position has frequent public contact. Communication and interpersonal skills are necessary in this position. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Occasional problem solving skills are required when dealing with clients.
