GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) is seeking an energetic individual to serve as our System Dispatcher-in-Training, Level I, II, or III, as part of the Power Supply Team, located in Fairbanks, Alaska. This full-time IUOE position earns a competitive starting wage of $62.05-69.84 hourly, including excellent benefits.

A day in the life of a System Dispatcher-in-Training, Level I, II, or III can look like:

Under the supervision of the Power Systems Manager and the System Dispatcher(s), the System Dispatcher-in-Training is responsible for achieving competency in the safe and efficient operation of the computer-based SCADA/EMS system. This position assists in coordinating the "real-time" operation of electrical generation, transmission, and distribution facilities. Participate in receiving trouble calls, dispatching line crews for power restoration, and helping maintain facility security.

Eligibility

• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• BSEE and/or Market Economics degree is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic electricity and desktop computing systems.
• Minimum of three years experience in power system operation or energy marketing or five years experience in distribution, transmission or power plant operations.
• Demonstrated knowledge of SCADA/EMS applications preferred.
