General Functions:

Through a temporary internship, CITC Interns gain professional work experience by applying education in a practical work setting in a focused area of interest. Interns are expected to embody behavior and work ethic centered on CITC values (Respect, Interdependence, Accountability, Resilience, and Humor). This position contributes to CITC's mission by developing future workforce talent and creating opportunities that fulfill our endless potential.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to department staff as required to ensure smooth operations.
  • Identify and participate in a goal-setting process to determine specific learning objectives for the internship period.
  • Observe and assist with department priorities, programs, services, research, and other tasks to gain practical experience.
  • Attend meetings and training courses as appropriate to acquire knowledge and skills within the assigned department.
  • Organize and assist in implementing strategies for special projects under departmental guidance.
  • Prepare project reports and progress summaries on assignments to demonstrate learning and accomplishments.
  • Complete a learning summary presentation to be presented to CITC management upon completion of internship.
  • Perform all related duties as assigned.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills with ability to present information and respond effectively to questions from staff and partners.

  • Good organizational skills with ability to think strategically, problem solve, and exercise good judgment.
  • Work independently as well as on a team with minimal supervision.
  • Work well under pressure and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, health, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Core Competencies:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Continued employment is contingent upon completion of satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Currently enrolled and in good academic standing as a full or part-time college student, or recently graduated from an undergraduate/graduate degree program in a related field.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • May require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and moving.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.
  • May involve use of office equipment, tools, and other equipment as necessary. Possible bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Employees will refer to the Job Description Physical Requirements of the placement organization, which is provided in the Worksite Agreement, or Youth Intern Agreement.
