General Functions:
The Treatment Team Peer plays a vital role within the Recovery & Reentry department, serving as a peer role model by drawing on lived experience in recovery and wellness to provide support, encouragement, and guidance to participants. This position bridges personal recovery experience with professional service delivery, helping participants reconnect with their cultural identity, restore balance, and regain control of their lives. Working in partnership with our people, the Treatment Team Peer develops opportunities that fulfill our endless potential by fostering recovery-centered connections and culturally responsive peer support services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Treatment Team Peer I
- Serve as a positive role model for recovery and overall wellness, establishing respectful and supportive relationships with program participants.
- Provide direct peer support services including motivational interviewing, community living skills, and social and emotional support to participants in Recovery Services programs.
- Support and encourage participants' self-directed recovery and cultural identity through group sessions, individual meetings, and peer-led activities.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of participant progress in the electronic health record, following Recovery & Reentry Services policies and procedures.
- Lead open peer support meetings, coordinate community events, and collaborate with fellow Treatment Team Peers to schedule culturally appropriate sessions.
- Incorporate trauma-informed methods and Motivational Interviewing techniques in participant interactions to enhance treatment engagement and outcomes.
- Offer peer support and linkage services to both alumni and active participants across the continuum of care, ensuring access to needed resources.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of cultural and recovery support services available throughout the state of Alaska.
- Participate in staff meetings and collaborate with team members during case staffing to address participants' transitional and discharge planning needs.
- Provide transportation for participants, both individually and in groups, as needed.
- Support and promote peer support initiatives, facilitate community support meetings, and increase social media awareness within Recovery & Reentry Services.
- Promote and reinforce the programs, policies, structures, and values of Recovery & Reentry Services.
- Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.
Treatment Team Peer II
- Perform all duties and responsibilities of Treatment Team Peer I with an advanced level of proficiency.
- Provide regular summaries and feedback to the Case Management & Peer Support Supervisor on outreach efforts, peer support activities, and participant services.
- Provide peer support services through Recovery & Reentry Services programs and grants in collaboration with partners and external organizations.
- Facilitate groups and collaborate with supervisors to integrate group services and meetings across the Recovery & Reentry Services continuum.
- Lead planning meetings for peer support community events and delegate responsibilities to ensure adequate coverage and successful execution.
Treatment Team Peer III
- Perform all duties and responsibilities of Treatment Team Peer II with an advanced level of proficiency.
- Support the Case Management & Peer Support Supervisor in coordinating peer support services across all Recovery & Reentry Services programs.
- Support Treatment Team Peer I & II staff by offering guidance, answering questions, and providing care-related recommendations.
- Collaborate with the Case Management & Peer Support Supervisor to develop culturally relevant, recovery-centered, peer-led group curricula with defined goals and objectives.
- Assist the Case Management & Peer Support Supervisor in coordinating outreach efforts, peer support activities, and community events.
- Support the Case Management & Peer Support Supervisor in facilitating required staff training as needed.
Job Specifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong public speaking abilities.
- Ability to interact with sensitivity and effectiveness when working with participants, external agencies, and coworkers.
- Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities and needs with strong time management skills.
- Proficient with computers including word processing, email communication, internet resourcing, spreadsheets, and case management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Demonstrated ability and experience conducting individual and group sessions.
- Demonstrated understanding and use of Trauma Informed techniques and Motivational Interviewing while engaging participants.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, health, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community.
- Expected to actively participate in CITC privacy training and protect participant information in accordance with federal and state law.

Minimum Core Competencies:

Minimum Qualifications:
- Continued employment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.
- Valid Alaska driver's license and insurable under CITC's automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver's license for at least three years.
- CPR certified or ability to be certified within 30 days of hire.
- Approved NPI status with state approval as a Qualified Addictions Professional (QAP).
- Maintain all credentials in a current and up-to-date status.
Treatment Team Peer I
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Lived experience in addiction recovery as well as one (1) year of continuous recovery prior to hire and active and continuing participation, and ability to speak to what keeps you well and in active recovery.
- Successful completion of state-approved 40-hour introductory PSS training completed within 6 months of hire.
- Certification through the Alaska Commission for Behavioral Health Certification as a PSA or PSP I, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
- Must obtain full PSS designation as an enrolled provider under the State of Alaska Medicaid within 4 years from the date of the provisional approval letter.
Treatment Team Peer II
- Associate's degree in Human Services or related field. Relevant work experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the competencies of a Treatment Team Peer I.
- Lived experience in addiction recovery as well as two (2) years of continuous recovery prior to hire and active and continuing participation, and ability to speak to what keeps you well and in active recovery.
- Certification through the Alaska Commission for Behavioral Health as a PSS I or higher.
- Must obtain full PSS designation as an enrolled provider under the State of Alaska Medicaid within 4 years from the date of the provisional approval letter.
Treatment Team Peer III
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field. Relevant work experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the competencies of a Treatment Team Peer II.
- Lived experience in addiction recovery, as well as three (3) years of continuous recovery prior to hire, and active and continuing participation, and ability to speak to what keeps you well and in active recovery.
- Certification through the Alaska Commission for Behavioral Health as a PSS II or higher.
- Must obtain full PSS designation as an enrolled provider under the State of Alaska Medicaid within 4 years from the date of the provisional approval letter.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- May require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and consistently working on a computer with repetitive motion.
- The need to occasionally move around the office to access filing cabinets, storage cabinets, and office equipment may be necessary.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.
