SUMMARY
Copper River Native Association is a Federally Qualified Look-A-Like Tribal Healthcare Organization, serving the beautiful Copper River Valley region in Alaska. Founded in 1972, five Alaska Tribes compacted to form CRNA, with a promise of delivering local, quality healthcare to the Ahtna People. Today, CRNA offers care to all residents of the Copper River Valley. We are searching for a Physician to join the CRNA team and help carry out our Promise Statement to the community. This position may be eligible for loan repayment. Interim housing is available, duration can be negotiated.
The Physician Medical Director reports directly to the CEO and closely collaborates with the Director of Medical Services, providing direct patient care, oversight of APP and CHA providers, and leadership to the clinical team. Experience in urgent care services is preferred but not required.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides direct medical care to all age groups in accordance with the State of Alaska Department of Licensing and professional scope of practice.
- Develops personalized treatment plans based on patient needs, medical history, and evidence-based guidelines.
- Coordinates with receiving physicians, hospitals, hospital transfer centers, ambulance, and medevac agencies for patients requiring transfer to a higher level of care.
- Maintains productivity requirements of the health center with accurate and timely documentation in the patient’s EHR.
- Collaborates with other departments and providers at CRNA to ensure patient driven, coordinated, and comprehensive care.
- Assists Medical Services Director in oversight and support of the CHA Director and CHA village clinic operations, consults with village Health Aids on patient care.
- Approves and signs off on standing orders for nursing staff and village Health Aids.
- Participates in peer review programs; performs quarterly chart reviews and risk management activities.
- Stays informed of changes to evidenced-based practices and works with clinical leadership to disseminate and develop best practice protocols.
- Collaborates with CQI Manager in the design, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of quality initiatives that improve health outcomes.
- Assists in developing APP clinical orientation, staff in-services, and collaborative agreements for physician assistants as necessary.
- Participate in and provide clinical perspective to strategic and annual planning.
- Collaborates with operational leadership to develop policies and procedures, set provider performance goals, and participate in budget planning.
- Makes recommendations for medical activities, including plans and projections for staff support and equipment as appropriate.
- Promote a motivational culture for providers and CRNA staff to work as a cohesive and mutually supportive group.
- Responsible for the completion of annual performance reviews for select employees.
- May attend statewide Medical Director’s Meetings and other relevant meetings.
- Prepare and deliver reports as appropriate.
- Provide clinical input in response to patient complaints and Medical Incident/Case Reviews.
- Participate in recruiting and selecting permanent and locums’ medical staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Demonstrated skills in staff supervision, teaching, and instruction skills.
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication and meeting facilitation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as required for HIPAA, other regulations, and organization matters.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Medical or Osteopathy degree from accredited university.
- Board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related.
- Valid state of Alaska medical license and DEA registration. May be in process.
- ACLS, PALS, ATLS, and BLS certified or equivalent, or able to obtain it within 3 months of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong community health background and at least three (3) years’ experience in primary care.
- Supervisory experience of Advance Practice Providers.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Most work is performed in a clinical office with various people with different functions, personalities, and abilities. CRNA is a smoke-free and tobacco-free campus. Local travel between compact services of CRNA may require exposure to extreme weather conditions. The work is in an environment where the protection of client confidentiality is essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided when and where needed.
SPECIFICATIONS
Supervision Received:
Work will be monitored through meetings, reports, and regular communication with the immediate supervisor. General operating guidelines are based on program requirements, conditions of grant award(s), and CRNA's general policies and procedures.
Supervision Exercised:
The position will supervise assigned staff and complete required documentation, including performance evaluations, training, and general oversight through direct reports.
Contacts:
Contacts include and not limited to volunteers, organizational staff, clients, and outside agencies.
CONDITIONS OF HIRE

- CRNA is a no tolerance workplace. All employees must pass an initial and random drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment.
- CRNA has several positions that require a criminal background check for the safety of our clients. All employment offers in the “covered” classification are conditional until CRNA has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs.
- First Aid/CPR certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire for required positions.
- As applicable by position and company policy, must meet standards for fitness for duty, immunizations, credentialing and privileging.
