Do you want to inspire the next generation of engineers? The Director of K-12 Outreach will manage programs that inform K-12 students, including underserved communities, on what it is that engineers do and why they should consider a career in engineering. The flagship activity is the UAA Summer Engineering Academies, which brings in hundreds of students for week-long engineering camps over the summer.
As the Director of K-12 Outreach for the College of Engineering, you will manage programs that introduce K-12 students to degrees offered by the College of Engineering and a future career as an engineer, computer scientist, geomatics, or project management professional. Existing programs include STEM events, after-school programs, engineering competitions, and our flagship Summer Engineering Academies. You will be in charge of everything from managing student assistants and hiring faculty to teach the Summer Engineering Academies to managing the budget, designing camp activities, working with donors, interfacing with parents and school districts, engineering professionals, and ensuring compliance with university policies.
To thrive in this role, you must be able to develop effective K-12 outreach programs and be able to manage programs and lead a team of student assistants. In addition, the position requires expertise in program assessment, the ability to create comprehensive reports based on data analysis, marketing, communications, budgeting, and the knowledge of the grant process. The application of rules and regulations, such as liability and risk management with minors on campus, is necessary.
We are looking for an applicant that has at least five years of relevant experience leading or mentoring students, working with minors, program management, etc., or a combination of experience and education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related field and five years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master's degree preferred.
Valid Alaska Driver's License required (must meet and maintain UA safe driver verification criteria).
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage's main campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/compensation/salary.php, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
