JOB SUMMARY: The Solar Installer is responsible for the safe, high-quality installation and repair of solar energy systems for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. This includes photovoltaic (PV) panel systems, wind, battery power management systems, and thermal solar systems for water heating. This position also supports job site preparation, equipment setup, and post-installation cleanup, with growth opportunities in service, sales, and technical roles.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Install and repair solar energy systems, including PV and thermal systems used for heating water or air.
- Locate and mark placement of collectors and system components based on blueprints and specifications.
- Cut holes in roofing, walls, and ceilings to install equipment and route electrical systems.
- Mount supports and brackets to secure solar collectors and related components.
- Lay out and connect electrical wiring between controls, and other components using industry-standard practices and wiring diagrams.
- Test system circuits for continuity using meters and diagnostic tools; monitor for proper performance.
- Activate and monitor installed systems to ensure proper operation.
- Repair or replace defective components and systems as needed.
- Assist crew leader with coordination of installation tasks and safety procedures.
- Safely manage and care for tools, materials, and equipment to ensure proper use and prevent loss or damage.
- Maintain a clean, organized job site and company vehicle; load and unload materials, track inventory, and follow all safety protocols to ensure readiness and safety.
- Perform vehicle inspections and routine maintenance (DVIR reports).
- Attend company-provided training and participate in meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Basic understanding of electrical systems, with the ability to read wiring diagrams and blueprints.
- Skilled in safe operation of hand and power tools commonly used in construction and solar installation.
- Ability to work on rooftops, in confined spaces, and outdoors in variable weather conditions.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and OSHA guidelines for construction and electrical work.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality craftsmanship.
- Effective communication and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Team-oriented with a positive attitude and customer service mindset.
- Willingness to learn new technologies, including battery and wind power systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One (1) year of experience in construction, roofing, or electrical work.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
- Able to pass background check and obtain/maintain a DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (within 2 weeks of hire).
- Availability to work 4x10-hour shifts with flexibility during events, shows, or seasonal peaks.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Alaska Native Corporations.
- Experience in solar, renewable energy, or related trades.
- Completion of relevant technical training or apprenticeship program.
- Familiarity with residential, commercial, or industrial energy systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 75 lbs. unassisted and push/pull up to 1200 lbs. with assistance.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces such as crawlspaces and attics.
- Climb ladders or stairs while assisting with equipment up to 250 lbs., using dollies or lifting devices.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and work overhead for extended periods.
- Stand or walk for up to 10 hours per day on uneven, icy, or slippery surfaces.
- Manual dexterity to handle small parts and tools with precision.
- Perform repetitive tasks using hand tools and power equipment.
- Visual acuity and color vision to identify electrical components and safety hazards.
- Tolerance for exposure to various weather conditions, noise, dust, and environments that may be hot, cold, or wet ranging from -45°F to 90°F.
- Operate power tools, heavy equipment, and drive service vehicles for extended periods.
- Independently operate motor vehicles in remote and challenging terrain.
