The Fairbanks Experiment Farm and Georgeson Botanical Garden are seeking grounds keepers and garden care technicians for the summer of 2026. These are seasonal positions located at the Fairbanks Agriculture, Forestry and Experiment Station that run from late April through October. These positions support the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the experiment station and botanical garden by working closely with AFES staff and research faculty. These are part or full-time outdoor positions working up to 40-hours per week, Monday through Friday in all weather conditions including; sun/heat, rain, wind, smoke and snow.
To thrive in this role the applicant must have experience working in a fast-paced outdoor environment and demonstrate the skills necessary to successfully perform the job duties as described. The applicant should demonstrate self-motivation and individual initiative. They should have the ability to shift focus quickly and react to unforeseen events. They should enjoy working in a physically demanding, outdoor environment in different elements such as rain, cold, heat, and potentially annoying insects. They should be friendly and eager to interact with the public and co-workers. They should be able to effectively communicate to staff about any safety issues that involve staff or Garden visitors. They should be able to maintain a positive attitude and also be able to communicate effectively if a problem or question arises.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Alaska driver's license
Must demonstrate ability to maintain productivity both independently and as a member of a team
Position Details:
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a part or full-time , non-exempt temporary staff position.
Positions will be hired at Grade 74 or higher, depending on assigned duties and qualifications. Roles involving the operation of motor-powered landscaping equipment (such as mowers and weed trimmers) require candidates to be at least 16 years of age and will be hired at a higher grade to reflect the increased responsibility, skill level, and safety requirements associated with this work. Positions that do not involve motor-powered equipment may be hired at Grade 74.
