Position Summary:
Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally-funded TRIO program that serves 160 limited income, first generation college students, and/or students who experience disabilities at the University of Alaska Anchorage. The Retention Coordinator is the main source of academic, personal, and career guidance for SSS participants.

Duties:
10Programming Development and Support: Assists with the recruitment and selection process of new SSS participants. Build collaborative relationships with secondary and post-secondary school programs, and with the community at-large. Coordinate outreach efforts to community and university agencies to enhance student success. Produce and distribute information related to educational opportunities, resources and SSS programming. Assists with the development and delivery of the SSS Summer Bridge Program and other student conferences. Assists with the creation and facilitation of various student development and skill-building workshops, seminars, or activities. Aids in the development and delivery of cultural events and leadership programs not usually available to underrepresented students. ADevelops and implements other programming components as needed that are designed to meet the SSS mission and goals.Essential 80Student Support: Academic Success: Build relationships with participants to facilitate their development and success and connect them to campus resources. In individual and in group settings provide educational and academic information and advisement to SSS participants regarding post-secondary planning, admissions requirements, application processes, general education, and graduation requirements. Provide success strategies to enhance students'' achievement of their educational goals. Proactively outreaches to participants on a regular basis to ensure students are progressing academically and able to satisfy program participation requirements. Serve as an advocate and liaison for students to internal offices including faculty, Academic Advisors, Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, the Dean of Students Office, and other support programs. Provide information about and assist students in the application process to graduate school. Financial Aid Support: Assists students in understanding the financial aid process, assists with on-time completion of FAFSA applications, helps with college and third-party scholarship applications and referral to funding sources, reviewing scholarship essays or referring students to tutoring assistance, and connecting with the office of financial aid as needed. Career Guidance: Provide career exploration and guidance activities (including administration), and coordinate the interpretation of assessments. Provide occupational information and make referrals to educational programs and Career Exploration and Services.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Passion for higher education and student success.
• Strong knowledge of University programs, policies and procedures, and campus support services.
• Knowledge of Federal Financial Aid application and process.
• Demonstrated experience in working with individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
• Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, including active listening skills and a willingness to initiate dialogue.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Sound professional judgement and discretion, capacity to maintain the strictest of confidentiality.
• Periodic after-hour and weekend service delivery is required.
• Excellent computer skills with various software programs to include databases, spreadsheets, and word processing programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google).
• Experience with Banner and StudentAccess preferred, or ability to be trained within one month of hire.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to plan and organize on both a daily and long-term basis.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships, network, and work effectively with a campus community and community organizations.
• Demonstrated commitment to the goals and objectives of TRIO Student Support Services.

Preferred Experience & Education:
Experience working with the target population (first generation and low income students, including students who experience a disability) in a higher education setting. At least three years of relevant experience in academic advising, counseling, or coaching. Experience facilitating groups. Experience with various learning strategies, student development, advising techniques, and assessment. Experience contributing to a pervasive workplace culture of respect, advocacy, and engagement.

Required Experience & Education:
Bachelor's degree is required preferably in education, counseling, psychology, social work, or related field from a post-secondary institution whose institutional accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.

Salary Information:
