Position Summary:

The College of Health is seeking applications for a Communications Coordinator to support the department of Human Services, Justice Social Work, and Population Health Sciences. This position will work as part of the College of Health's communications team and will be responsible for developing and disseminating content via the Division's internal and external communications and marketing channels.

 

Duties:

15MARKETING: ● Develop and maintain print/digital materials to promote academic units, programs and individual courses ● Use, disseminate, and encourage unit adoption of COH marketing materials and templates ● Collaborate with unit faculty and staff to review and update program marketing materials periodically ● Consult and approve design and logos used on unit and program swag, displays, and other materials ● Coordinate with Communications Director on planning and implementation of advertising campaigns ● Promote internal and external events on Division's calendars, social media accounts, and UAA/COH newsletters, as appropriate ● Develop materials for unit events (e.g. invitations, promotional flyers, presentations, handouts, etc.)Essential 15STRATEGIC PLANNING & COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT: ● Nurture relationships with Division faculty and staff to strengthen opportunities for communications coaching and story/content leads ● Collaborate with Division leadership to develop and implement strategic communications/marketing plans, goals, and initiatives that build the Division's reputation ● Use analytics and research in industry best practices to provide regular reports and recommendations to unit leadership ● Strengthen and refine the Division's brand, ensuring that organizational image and voice align with the college's mission, vision and strategic priorities. ● Assist with communications for internal audiences including faculty, staff, and students ● Train, consult, and advise Division faculty and staff on unit and program communications efforts such as posters, newsletters, mass emails, accessibility, etc.Essential 20SOCIAL MEDIA: ● Maintain assigned unit social media calendars and contribute to college-wide social media calendars ● Manage the Division's social media accounts and sharing of division social media content on college-wide accounts ● Monitor and assess content/campaign performance metrics across channels, using data to inform future activitiesEssential 20WEBSITE: ● Track website analytics for unit pages ● Ensure website content is accurate, up-to-date, and appropriate for relevant audiences ● Solicit periodic faculty/staff reviews of webpages to ensure content is current ● Ensure content accessibility requirements are met (including PDFs) ● Identify and fix broken links, typos, and missing images ● Map and reorganize unit webpages to make visitor navigation easier and consistent with College of Health web formats ● Research and implement usability improvements consistent with other College of Health pages ● Work with ITS to address technical issues ● Develop new web pages as neededEssential 30CONTENT DEVELOPMENT: ● Maintain newsgathering processes in order to stay up to date with activities across the college, as well as issues related to health and social service industries ● Maintain editorial content calendars for assigned units and contribute to college-wide editorial content calendar and planning meetings ● Create, edit, and disseminate high-quality written (blog posts, media advisories/press releases, and copy for website/recruitment materials) and multimedia (photos, graphics, videos) content promoting academic programs and research for the college's external and internal communications channels including websites, UAA/COH news sites, social media, newsletters, etc. ● Coordinate additional photo opportunities and story leads with the college Communications Director and the Office of the University Advancement ● Maintain division photos and media release forms in the College of Health photobank

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to develop written content appropriate for a range of media, formats and audiences

● Ability to create images and multimedia materials to support public relations and communications goals

● Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, including the ability to interact with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff

● Excellent attention to detail

● Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task simultaneous responsibilities

● Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills

● Proficiency with and knowledge in selecting and applying appropriate software and tools, including

○ MS Office Suite

○ Social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)

○ Website CMS platforms (e.g. OU Campus, Drupal, Wordpress, etc.)

○ Preferred: Proficiency with Adobe In Design, Photoshop, and Premier

 

Typical Experience:

Minimum of three years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

Required Education or Training:

Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing or a related field.

 

Salary Information:

 

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php. About the Division of Human Services, Justice, and Social Work:

As part of the UAA College of Health (COH), the Division of Human Services, Justice, and Social Work incorporates Associate, Baccalaureate, and Master's degree programs, in addition to minors and certificates, in the fields of Human Services, Justice, Legal Studies, and Social Work. The Division is the home of significant public service and research project activity through the Alaska Justice Information Center, the National Resource Center for Alaska Native Elders, and the Child Welfare Academy. The Division incorporates instructional, research, and public service activities to advance the quality of life of Alaska and its citizens.

 

Position Summary:

The Communications Coordinator will work as part of the College of Health's communications team, and will be responsible for developing and disseminating content for the Division's internal and external communications and marketing channels. The incumbent will be responsible for developing engaging content that reflects the Division's strategic priorities, and for maintaining efficient workflows for all of the Division's communications channels.

 

The Communications Coordinator will collaborate closely with the College of Health's other communications staff, as well as with faculty and staff across the Division. Ultimately, the position will have an important role in building public awareness of the Division's academic programs and activities, strengthening relationships with key stakeholders and partners, and supporting the Division's student recruitment efforts.
