Position Summary:
UAF's Community and Technical College (CTC) is seeking an innovative, energetic Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Developmental Mathematics. The successful applicant will teach and directly supervise student learning experiences and will work in concert with faculty colleagues in the CTC Learning Center. This is an open until filled tenure track faculty recruitment with the initial application review taking place on January 3, 2023. Duties:
- Support University of Alaska bipartite mission of performing teaching and public service - Write publications - The successful applicant will be expected to develop new research and teaching areas - Help establish a strong externally funded program - The incumbent will develop and teach a undergraduate and/or graduate course - Mentor and supervise graduate students - The incumbent will be responsible for teaching one or more undergraduate courses in a manner consistent with the specific course content description. - Faculty is expected to hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught. - Be proactive in developing and modifying curriculum for delivery and other teaching modalities. - Advise students about proper mathematics placement. - Oversee and support tutors and serve on departmental and University-wide committees. - Provide University and Community service.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students and ability to work as a team player.

The following knowledge, skills and abilities are required:
- Successful experience in teaching math; demonstrated success teaching under-prepared learners at the post-secondary level.
- Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of teaching students with non-traditional learning styles.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population and the ability to integrate technology into the classroom is essential.
- Ability to teach the entire spectrum of Developmental and College Mathematics courses face to face or by distance.
- Use web-based artificial intelligence assessments and learning systems.
- Experience in student assessment and curriculum development.

Typical Experience:
- Thorough knowledge of "best practices" of Developmental Mathematics teaching methods.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating and developing Mathematics curricula for academic and vocational education.

Required Education or Training:
- Master's Degree completed or in progress in Mathematics, Developmental Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or relevant equivalent teaching experience in Mathematics Education.

This position will be responsible for teaching the entire spectrum of Developmental and Applied Mathematics courses. Courses may be taught face to face or by distance. Successful applicant will teach and directly supervise student learning experiences and will work in concert with faculty colleagues at UAF CTC.

UAF CTC has a community education mission which provides academic and vocational education and outreach that promotes workforce preparation, economic development , life-long learning and community development throughout Alaska. UAF CTC helps under-prepared, linguistically diverse and non-traditional students develop the academic and language skills necessary to successfully pursue their lifelong learning goals. The department offers composition, mathematics, reading, and study skills courses that prepare students for advancement to the next academic level. The faculty and staff use placement and retention, advising, tutoring and a developmental teaching philosophy to help students succeed. Face to face and telephonic Developmental Mathematics labs are staffed by tutors to provide assistance.

The position also involves coordinating and maintaining math support services in the CTC's Learning Center, maintaining outreach to Adult Learning Programs of Alaska and related community programs, and fulfilling faculty expectations for teaching and teaching-related services, advising, program development and service to support the University of Alaska CTC's bipartite mission of performing teaching and public service. This position will be responsible for teaching the entire spectrum of Developmental and College Mathematics courses. Courses may be taught face to face or by distance. The faculty member will work in concert with faculty colleagues and the CTC Learning Center. Position may require work during evenings and weekends and occasional travel.

Although not required for this position, the following additional knowledge, skills and abilities are preferred:

- Experience with Developmental Education curriculum, program planning, course development and nationally-recognized best practices in college preparatory pathways;
- Experience working with community agencies;
- Experience working with non-traditional or under prepared students in post-secondary setting.

UAF CTC offers 40 associate degrees, certificates, and occupational endorsements at 11 locations throughout Fairbanks and the Tanana Valley of Interior Alaska. UAF CTC is responsive to local and regional vocational and technical training needs, and focuses on workforce development to meet the needs of the region and the state. UAF CTC's programs also provide students with the academic framework to help them achieve their higher education goals, whether it is to complete an associate of arts degree or transfer to a baccalaureate program.

In addition, UAF CTC provides career training and development opportunities through workforce development and professional development programs. Staff and faculty have forged close ties with businesses and local agencies, enhancing instruction and increasing job placements.

UAF CTC has an annual budget of approximately $14 million, and employs a diverse population of approximately 35 full-time faculty and 200 adjunct faculty who are represented by two unions and a staff of about 35. Approximately 3000 students attend UAF CTC. They are culturally diverse and include many non-traditional students and students from the military community.
