Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Southeast Administrative Services Office of the Bursar and Student Accounts is seeking a candidate with excellent customer service skills to complete our small team environment as the Lead Cashier.  If you like working with people, are interested in learning, and interested in the financial field we want to hear from you!  This is a great entry-level opportunity for an individual interested in starting with the University system and serving UAS students. Point of contact for UAS customers, staff, and the general public. Position responds to in-person, phone, and electronic communications in a professional manner with superior customer service. Receiving, reviewing, and processing payments for tuition, fees, housing, and other auxiliary operation departments. Collaborative receipt of scholarship checks, providing copies to UAS Financial Aid department and assistance in reconciliation of aid receipts as needed.

Administrative clerical support. Disburse and log student refunds processed. Disburse and record bus passes, special event tickets. Record and track non-accounts receivable checks received. Distribute incoming and out-going mail: USPS, inter-campus, and secured bank bags from UAS departments. Responsible for records management of student accounts financial documents. Ensuring record archiving process compliance. Review and production of UAS Whale cards to eligible UAS members.

Assist with student accounts receivable collections: Provide support to Bursar and other Fiscal staff managing various fiscal processes by sending statements of accounts, contacting past due account holders via phone, mail, and e-mail. Assisting in review of annual PFD garnishment student lists and term-specific drop for non-payment processes. Preparation of collections files for bad debt accounts or write-off review. Data entry of accounts receivable charges and adjustments onto student accounts as directed. Assist with change fund and petty cash transactions and record keeping.

Prepares daily deposits from cashiering activities. Balances cash drawer, credit cards, checks, and wire transfers to recorded revenues. Submits a reconciliation with appropriate backup of all daily cash receipts to Bursar.

Office inventory tracking and requisition. Responsible for updating office forms in physical and electronic form. Responsible for updating Cashiering process manual.

Provide accounting reconciliation and audit/research assistance to Bursar for clearing, balance sheet and other university financial accounts.

The University of Alaska Southeast Office of the Bursar and Student Accounts is seeking the right candidate to lead our campus cashiering functions.  This fiscal technician provides support to the campus student accounts receivable functions; including payment receipt, departmental receipts, responding to verbal and written inquiries regarding students' accounts, managing office records, and providing support to team members.

Required Education & Experience

  • Work experience, training, or college coursework in Accounting or related field which provides for a basic understanding of accounting principles.
  • 6 months work or volunteer experience in a customer service position.
  • 6 months of cash handling, reconciling a cash drawer, receipts, or sales records.
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn a relational database financial system (i.e. Banner).
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, answer phones, and keyboard
