Transitional Housing Case Manager 

Job Description 


The Transitional Housing Case Manager is responsible for the daily operations of our transitional housing apartments and their inhabitants. This case manager will work with the community organizations to house individuals and families. This case manager will assist clients in developing a wide range of life skills, connect clients to community resources, and maintain the physical space so clients may live safely and comfortably. 

The ideal candidate is patient, comfortable with conflict, has the ability to set expectations and hold people accountable, and is willing to keep a flexible schedule. 


  • Interact with clients and staff members in a manner that is respectful and empowering

  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings, program meetings, and trainings 
  • Present a professional demeanor to the community through appearance, communication, and presentation 

Essential Functions: 

  • Implement the goals and objectives of IAC’s Housing Program 
  • Work with individuals moving into independent living to access community support and resources 
  • Provide safety planning around independent living 
  • Engage in and role model direct conflict resolution 
  • Research, prepare and facilitate groups around independent living (such as Ready to Rent, budgeting classes, etc.) 
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals and their children living in IAC owned facilities 
  • Coordinate with the Women’s Shelter to move individuals into IAC rental properties
  • Address housing issues for individuals living in IAC rental properties that require de-escalation and/or mediation 
  • Assist individuals with rental assistance applications for which they qualify 
  • Provide weekly follow up in person or over the phone to individuals in IAC rental properties 
  • Assist individuals living in IAC rental properties in areas such as grocery shopping, food boxes, paying bills, and keeping their unit in a manner compliant with basic health and safety codes 
  • Maintain accurate client records and statistics as required by the agency and funders 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Housing Director

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or closely related field; sufficient job experience may be used in lieu of education 
  • One or more years of experience with trauma issues, crisis intervention, or advocacy
  • Valid AK Driver's License 
  • Proficient with computers and ability to do data entry 
  • Ability to lift 40lbs and walk upstairs 
  • Excellent interpersonal, group, and written communication skills 
  • Ability to pass a background check 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of experience in case management 
  • Master’s degree in social work or closely related field 
  • One or more years of experience regarding substance abuse and mental health issues 

Supervision: Directly responsible to the Housing Director 

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, including weekends and evenings 

Salary: Range 22/starting at $19.80 --  $22.27 per hour DOE
