Position Summary:

Matanuska-Susitna College under the University of Alaska Anchorage College of Arts & Sciences seeks applications for a Term Assistant Professor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Painting/Drawing. We are seeking a visionary individual who will serve a collaborative role in a unique Art Department that is home to art and art history. Teaching responsibilities for this position may include (but are not limited to) introductory and advanced studio courses in drawing and painting, and other related courses based on the candidate's interests and departmental needs. This is a bipartite (no research requirement) position. The successful candidate must be available to start August 2023.

 

Duties:

20The position is required to provide service to the Department, the College, the Profession, &/or the University. This service may include curriculum development and service on various committees. This position is expected to provide department coordinator duties during the course of the academic year.Essential 80Teach a full-time bipartite instructional workload (typically 24 credits per academic year) of lower division (100 & 200 level) fine arts courses to undergraduate college students in a manner consistent with the specific course content guide description. Prepare syllabus consistent with the specific course content guide description. Prepare instruction appropriate to student learning outcomes and class delivery mode, e.g. face-to-face, blended/hyflex, online. Maintain office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught. Provide timely feedback to students on their learning in order to maximize student success. Submit final grades by established deadline. Participate in university-wide program assessment activities as needed. Create gallery exhibitions from student work and community members.Essential

Applicants should have an MFA, Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) and a professional practice and teaching portfolio that combines Painting/Drawing with critical studies in the arts (visual culture, contemporary arts and culture, critical making) and emerging practices.

Typical Experience:

Applicants should have at least three years of experience teaching in higher education.

 

Experience in art making & new media.

 

Experience/willingness to deliver teaching via face-to-face, online, and blended formats.

 

Experience teaching art history courses, including art appreciation and Western Art History I and II.

 

Preference for applicants with backgrounds in interdisciplinary art making and teaching.

 

Required Education or Training:

Candidates must possess an MFA studio degree with a specialty in drawing and/or

painting.

 

PhD or terminal degree in art at time of appointment is preferred and may be accepted in lieu of a Master's Degree.

 

Applicants should have at least three years of experience teaching in higher education.

 

Professional practice and teaching portfolio that combines Painting/Drawing with critical studies in the arts (visual culture, contemporary arts and culture, critical making) & emerging practices. Applied experience with a university-level teaching record.

 

The successful candidate will have a promising record of distinguished scholarship and/or creative work, exhibition, professional project development appropriate to be appointed at the assistant professor level.

 

Salary Information:
