Job Title: Apprentice Kitchen Assistant (I/II/III)

Department: Alaska’s People

Reports To: Coho Cup Manager

Supervises: N/A

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

General Functions:

The Apprentice Kitchen Assistant provides support and assistance to the kitchen to ensure food service is delivered and the kitchen is maintained with the highest of quality standards. 

 

Apprentice Kitchen Assistant, I

  • Asist with meal prep which includes washing fruits/vegetables, peeling, chopping, cooking, and baking.
  • Keep retail case full and appropriately stocked.
  • Maintain clean, sanitary, safe, and well-organized kitchen and food storage environment.
  • Sweep, mop, wash, and sanitize floors, surfaces, cooking and eating utensils and dishware.
  • Responsible for following the First In/First Out food safety program. 
  • Responsible for establishing and maintain positive relationships with baristas.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Apprentice Kitchen Assistant, II

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of an Apprentice Kitchen Assistant I with a higher level of proficiency and responsibility.
  • Ability to perform all ordering and maintaining of supplies and inventory
  • Generate revenues by defining new and expanded services and products.
  • Make suggestions for quality improvement and process efficiencies to the Coho Cup Manager and Apprentice Barista III.
  • Understand pricing and monitor cost to ensure profitability.

 

Apprentice Kitchen Assistant, III

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of an Apprentice Kitchen Assistant I and II with an advanced level of proficiency and responsibility.
  • Provide training to new employees.
  • Improve quality results by studying, evaluating and re-designing processes, implementing changes, and improving the appearance of the store and kitchen.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and health regulations of the Health Department and other regulating agencies.
  • Develop new menu items and actively look for ways to generate revenue and growth.
  • Assist the Manager and Supervisor in oversight of health and safety requirements of each facility.

 

Job Specifications: 

  • Demonstrated ability to use kitchen equipment & appliances.
  • Strong understanding of standard kitchen measurements.
  • Ability to develop rapport with customers and co-workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple activities.
  • Receive ServSafe Certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Detail oriented. 
  • Able to independently follow an established work schedule.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • (I) Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  • (II) Demonstrated proficiency as an Apprentice Kitchen Assistant I.
  • (III) Demonstrated proficiency as an Apprentice Kitchen Assistant II. 
  • Must be able to lift and move 20 lbs.
  • Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card or obtain within one (1) month of hire.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of satisfactory report from a state and federal background check. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working a commercial, school, head-start, or similar kitchen environment.
  • Knowledge of Alaska Native and American Indian culture and cooking. 
  • Kitchen Assistant III – have a valid Alaska Driver’s License and be insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age.
