Cook Inlet Housing Authority (CIHA) is looking for a skilled HVAC Technician to support and maintain HVAC and refrigeration systems across our residential and commercial properties. In this role, you’ll help ensure our buildings remain safe, functional, and comfortable for our residents. This is a field-based position working across multiple properties and collaborating with maintenance staff and property teams.

What We’re Looking For: 

We’re looking for a hands-on HVAC technician with strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to manage work efficiently in the field: Here’s what we’re after:

  • At least 2 years of HVAC journeyman-level experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Active Alaska HVAC Journeyman or Master License.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable, insured vehicle suitable for all-weather travel. 
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems, tools, and safety practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, prioritize tasks, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable with moving heavy and large appliances – must be able to lift 70-100lbs.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook preferred).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work respectfully with residents, staff, and contractors.
  • Someone who’s dependable, proactive, and likes working collaboratively.   

What You’ll Be Doing: 

  • Perform inspection, installation, repair, and modification of HVAC and refrigeration systems, including compressors, chillers, pumps, and ventilation equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on boilers, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems; monitor performance and make necessary adjustments.
  • Diagnose issues and repair or replace components such as motors, thermostats, valves, belts, and safety controls, including related electrical work.
  • Install and calibrate systems and piping; rebuild and maintain compressors and mechanical equipment while ensuring tools and inventory are in safe working order.
  • Coordinate and document work, maintain clean and safe job sites, respond to on-call emergencies, and identify/report safety concerns to support resident safety.
