Assistant Professor of Health Sciences

The University of Alaska Anchorage Division of Population Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time assistant professor (non-tenure track) for our academic programs (e.g., undergraduate Bachelor's in Health Sciences and graduate Master's in Public Health Practice [MPH]). This faculty position is responsible for advancing teaching and service in addressing public health issues in Alaska. Faculty may also engage in research, scholarship, or applied / community-engaged work depending on interests and workload. The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2027.

As a faculty member in the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Division of Population Health Sciences (DPHS), the person in this role will teach an array of courses across both undergraduate and graduate programs and contribute to the academic and professional development of our students. We seek candidates with experience in health sciences, public health, health care, community health, or a related field who are prepared to teach in hybrid, online, and in-person environments. Faculty may also contribute to curriculum development, student mentorship, and other activities that support our academic programs.

Faculty members will work independently and collaboratively with colleagues to produce high-quality teaching, student mentorship, and service, with opportunities to engage in research and scholarly activity that benefits Alaskans. Successful applicants who wish to maintain an active research or scholarly agenda may have opportunities to incorporate research, applied scholarship, or community-engaged work into their faculty workload.

The DPHS has an undergraduate BSHS degree with both Pre-Clinical and Health Educator tracks, an MPH program, an Occupational Endorsement Certificate (OEC) in Gerontology, a Graduate Certificate (GC) in Public Health, and a minor in Public Health.

The DPHS offers rich collaborative opportunities in our research centers, including the Healthy Aging Research Laboratory, the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies (CAAS), and as the Alaska Satellite Center for the Colorado Center for Diabetes Translation Research, where faculty engage communities in a wide range of applied health research projects to address some of our most pressing health concerns in our state, nation, and world.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master's degree in a relevant discipline for faculty with little to no research assignment; a Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline for faculty with significant, ongoing research assignments.

Preferred Experience:

Doctoral/terminal degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Behavior, a clinical health profession, or another field relevant to health sciences preferred.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position with an expectation of in-person teaching in Anchorage, Alaska. The salary range is $66,462 to $80,000. Specific offers will be based on the candidate's relevant academic preparation and experience.
