Kenai Peninsula College in Soldotna Alaska is seeking a College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) Coordinator to support the success of migratory or seasonal worker students or their dependents during their first year of college. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in student support services, a deep understanding of migratory students' needs, and the ability to build strong relationships with high school counselors, faculty, and community members.
The College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) has existed since (1972). The program assists students who are migratory or seasonal farmworkers - or their dependents - enrolled in their first year of undergraduate studies at an Institution of Higher Education. The funding supports the completion of the first year of studies and serves 25 CAMP participants annually. Funding is used for outreach to persons who are eligible, counseling, tutoring, skills workshops, financial aid stipends, health services, and housing assistance.
Under the administrative supervision of the Kenai Peninsula College CAMP Director, the CAMP Program Coordinator will provide student support services for participants in the CAMP program to ensure students successfully complete their first year of college and beyond. This position is also responsible for recruitment, coordination and delivery of program activities, and communication with KPC faculty and staff about the needs of CAMP students. The Coordinator will understand migratory student struggles and develop a strong relationship with high school counselors, community members, staff and faculty to help migratory students achieve their goals.
To thrive in this role as the CAMP Program Coordinator the ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in student support roles such as college admissions, advising, or recruitment, with experience working with migratory students and/or understanding their unique needs. They should be knowledgeable about the operational functions of post-secondary institutions, federal grants, and academic support services. The candidate should be an effective communicator, capable of creating positive learning environments, delivering educational workshops, and focused on student success. They must be able to work independently, manage staff, and handle multiple tasks, including recordkeeping and compliance with laws and regulations. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends. Experience with bicultural environments is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or related field and two (2) years of experience providing student support in functions such as college admissions, advising, recruitment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience working with migrant students and/or a demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to the unique characteristics and needs of migratory students.
An unrestricted Alaska driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria is required.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Kenai Peninsula College campus in Soldotna, AK. This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.
