Mat-Su College (MSC), in collaboration with the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), is seeking a Career Development Advisor to join our Admissions, Recruitment, and Advising office. This role involves academic and career advising, leads community engagement initiatives, and supports student success through career development programming and recruitment efforts.
To thrive in this role, the applicant should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds. Experience in academic and career advising, particularly with first-year students, is essential, along with a solid understanding of career development theories and tools like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or Strong Interest Inventory. The candidate should have a proven track record in event planning, coordination, and community engagement, as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Strong organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and career services software are also important for success in this position.
As a Career Development Advisor, you will help guide students in academic and career exploration, providing valuable advising that helps them reach their full potential. You will also lead the planning and coordination of career development programs, workshops, and events that enhance student readiness for employment and professional growth. This position offers the opportunity to build strong connections with both the campus and local community, playing a vital role in fostering engagement and collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, public relations, communications, public administration, human resources, or a relevant field required. Minimum of two years in student services or a related field with demonstrated experience in career advising, academic support, or similar roles.
Position Details:
This position is located on the https://matsu.alaska.edu/ campus in Palmer, Alaska. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/compensation/salary.php, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
