Position Summary:
The UAA, Aviation Technology Division, Flight Operations department is currently recruiting for a full-time, benefited, Certified Flight Instructor II position. This position is responsible for providing pilot ground and flight training to beginning and intermediate students using basic and complex single-engine airplanes. Effective candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English and possess a high level of work, systems, and aviation infrastructure related knowledge and technical skill. This recruitment is open internally to current UA employees or those otherwise eligible to apply to internal postings.

Duties:
15MENTORSHIP: Provides mentorship to the hourly flight instructors, to include records checks, review of student progress, and effective instructional methodologies. Provides the initial and recurrent UAA Flight Operations procedures training to hourly flight instructors to include proper student/aircraft check in/out, reporting of maintenance issues, record keeping, emergency plan/reporting, and invoicing. Responsible for assisting flight operations manager and assistant chief with developing saftey protocols, student training materials, and materials for hourly CFI.Essential 15RECORDS MANAGEMENT: Maintains student records as required by Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 141, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA).Essential 70FLIGHT INSTRUCTION: A ) Conducts pilot ground and flight training of UAA students for the following Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certificates and ratings: Private Pilot Certificate (Single-Engine Land), Commercial Pilot Certificate (Single-Engine Land), Instrument (Airplane), Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII). B) Maintains training standards and procedures which are safe and acceptable to the FAA Administrator, UAA, ATD Chief Flight Instructor and ATD Director. C) Supervises student aircraft operations to ensure operations follow established procedures and regulations. D) Monitors student flight training activities to insure compliance with UAA Policy and Safety Procedures Handbook, UAA standard Operating Procedures Guide, 14 CFR Part 91 and 141 regulations and FAA approved Training Course Outline (TCO). E) Maintains professional currency in compliance with 14 CFR as applicable including updates/changes, Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), guidance and industry developments, and UAA ATD policy.

Must possess FAA Certified Flight Instructor credentials and the knowledge that those credentials imply, while also meeting the following criteria:

Familiarity with the following:
A. Single-engine aircraft (basic and complex)
B. Flight Training Devices
C. Record Keeping Systems
D. Aircraft, University, FAA and TSA Documents and Manuals

Must possess the following skills:
1. Be able to communicate effectively and have a high level of technical knowledge and skills
2. Be able to work effectively with individuals having diverse backgrounds and experience
3. Be able to effectively evaluate a student's learning progress based upon established standards of performance relative to the student's experience and stage of development as a pilot
4. Ability to work as part of a structured Part 141 University Flight School that uses standardized Flight and Ground Syllabi/TCOs, as well as standardized Maneuver Description Guides (MDG)

Preferred Experience & Education:
14 CFR Part 141 experience. Bachelor degree (aviation-related preferred).
FAA Flight Instructor Airplane Single-Engine with a minimum 400 hours of flight instruction given.
FAA Multi Engine Flight Instructor Rating.

Required Experience & Education:
Must meet the Pilot-In-Command recent flight experience requirements of 14 CFR part 61.57.

Associate degree (aviation-related preferred).

Current FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Airplane, Single Engine, Land.

Current FAA Certified Flight Instructor, Instrument (CFII).

Possess FAA Commercial Pilot, Airplane, Single-Engine Land Certificate or higher with Instrument Rating.

Must have and maintain a minimum of a FAA Second Class Medical Certificate.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php.
