Position Summary:
The Ketchikan Campus of the University of Alaska Southeast seeks a full-time Term Assistant Professor of Communication to provide high-quality instruction in our undergraduate program in face-to-face and distance-delivered formats. UAS is committed to faculty diversity and advancing the education of Indigenous peoples and is located on the ancestral homeland of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian peoples. Duties:
The workload for this position is bipartite to include teaching and service (no research). The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching approximately 12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate courses in a manner consistent with the specific course content description. Faculty is expected to hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught and advise undergraduate students. Perform appropriate University and public service.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• The successful candidate must satisfy the following requirements:

• Ability to teach communication courses, especially at the developmental level.
• Ability to effectively teach courses in writing, literature, and/or philosophy.
• Ability to teach effectively in an online/distance or blended/hybrid learning environment.
• Ability to teach students from a wide variety of backgrounds representing diverse perspectives.
• Potential to incorporate topics of interdisciplinarity (including Indigeneity and decolonization) into the classroom.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary faculty from a variety of subjects.
• Demonstrated success in working with first generation students, non-traditional students, Alaska Native and American Indian students, Filipino and Pacific Islander students, and other diverse student groups.
• Potential to deliver effective undergraduate instruction in Southeast Alaska, the cultural homeland of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian peoples.

Typical Experience:
Three years of teaching experience preferred.

Required Education or Training:
PhD or ABD in Communication or related field.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 9-months, term-funded, represented faculty position complete with competitive https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php including tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision coverage.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
