Position Summary:

The Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is recruiting for a Project Manager position to join our dynamic research-oriented team. Duties:

10Report Writing: Draft and edit technical reports for international and domestic clients, as well as for ACEP publications, documenting the options evaluated and recommendations for project development. Help respond to and/or coordinate responses to various funding opportunities to support impactful projects and programs. Write reports documenting results of work including planning, testing, and commissioning. Contribute to journal and conference papers related to field and or laboratory work. Coordinate reporting deliverables for managed projects (e.g. quarterly, annual, and final reports).Essential 30Research and Analysis: Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to conduct research on Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) and other energy related projects. Focus may include data collection, problem solving, and analysis. Solve complex research questions/problems by using advanced analytical skills. Conduct literature reviews when appropriate. Assess performance of prototype or pre-commercial technology and systems. Use traditional collection methods including surveys, interviews, control systems, and automated and mechanical feedback mechanisms to collect, synthesize, and analyze research data. Develop models for use by other research professionals or faculty members. Ensure quality control of projects and resulting data. Troubleshoot issues and create solutions as necessary. Prepare reports of findings for internal, client, and public dissemination. With ACEP director, principal investigator, and/or program managers, identify, procure, and set up necessary equipment and supplies within technical and budgetary specifications. This may include computer and data acquisition systems, field instrumentation, general hardware, plumbing, and mechanical and electrical material.Essential 60Project Management: Manage multidisciplinary energy projects at the Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP). Perform work under general direction. Projects include Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DoD), and State funded projects related to the planning and operation of modern power systems. Ensure the project goals and technical deliverables are defined and executed in a timely, fiscally responsible, quality-controlled, and professional manner, and in alignment with larger program goals. Develop and monitor financial and technical progress metrics/tools for projects that can be easily accessed and referenced. Work with subcontractors and personnel to ensure timely delivery of technical and financial deliverables. Identify and submit purchase requests and requisitions for the necessary equipment, supplies, and service contracts based on program needs and after discussion with task leads and/or leadership. Ensure expenditures are within technical and budgetary specifications. Assist with other project development tasks as necessary, including taking, organizing, and disseminating notes at critical meetings. Provide assistance, as needed, to the principal investigator and/or program director. Duties will include assisting with reporting and evaluation, publicity and communications, program administration, financial management, meetings, and workshop coordination. Document research results in technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations.Essential

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 

• Advanced knowledge of research methods and analytical procedures.

• Ability to lead a cohesive research team through technical work tasks with minimal supervision.

• Knowledge of effective project management tools and methods.

• Ability to pay strong attention to detail.

• Strong research and analytical skills, knowledge of accurate data collection methods, and of standard reporting procedures.

• Ability to understand and work within financial constraints of funding parameters.

• Ability to understand practical applications of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.

• Ability to work in a hands-on problem-solving work environment with a variety of different technologies.

• Working knowledge of computer systems and common software such as Excel.

• Ability to work autonomously within the context of broader ACEP programs.

• Strong writing and communication skills.

 

Typical Experience:

Master's degree and two years of research experience at the postgraduate level in a science or energy field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
