The Department of Art at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for a Term Assistant Professor of Art (specifically, Drawing). This is a full-time non-tenure-track (9 month) position in an Art department that offers BA, BFA, and MFA degrees.This recruitment is open internally to current UA employees or those otherwise eligible to apply to internal postings.

The Department of Art is home to the farthest north BFA and MFA programs in the country. We serve a diverse student body and add to the ever-growing creative community in Alaska. This non-tenure track position of Term Assistant Professor of Art (Drawing) includes many elements from teaching a variety of classes to mentoring students throughout the program and a multitude of service opportunities.

To thrive in this role candidates must be able to work with a diverse student body, mentor students through the different degree programs, and work closely with other faculty in the Department of Art. They should also maintain a rigorous exhibition record as part of their creative activity and research.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Department of Art is seeking a candidate with an MFA in visual arts or related field, at least 2 years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level, and demonstrated experience in maintaining a professional creative portfolio, including publications and/or exhibitions. Demonstrated Expertise/experience teaching Cartoon, Inking, and Life Drawing. Experience serving as head or director of a drawing studio. Demonstrated professional creative portfolio experience, including publications and/or exhibitions.

Candidates would lead the Drawing program but may also teach a variety of 3-D media as needed by the department. The successful candidate would teach and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students in the BA, BFA, and MFA programs.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yhedda campus in Fairbanks, Alaska.
