The Department of Art at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Art (specifically, Photography) beginning Fall 2024. This is a full-time tenure-track position in an Art department that offers BA, BFA and MFA degrees.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks houses the farthest north MFA and BFA programs in the country. We are a small program housed within the Fine Arts Complex at Alaska's premier research University. Our studios and labs are well-equipped and we offer a variety of courses in nine different concentrations: ceramics, computer arts, drawing, metalsmithing, native arts, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. We are looking for a candidate who is willing and able to collaborate across multiple disciplines.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks serves a diverse and non-traditional student body. Approximately 20% of the student body are Alaska Native students.

The Department of Art is home to the farthest north BFA and MFA programs in the country. We serve a diverse student body and add to the ever-growing creative community in Alaska. The position of Assistant Professor of Photography includes many elements from teaching a variety of classes, and mentoring students throughout the program, to overseeing studio/lab facilities for a multitude of processes.

To thrive in this role candidates must be able to work with a diverse student body, mentor students through the different degree programs, and work closely with other faculty in the Department of Art. They should also maintain a rigorous exhibition record as part of their creative activity and research.

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters in Fine Arts in Photography at time of appointment, minimum. Experience in teaching and/or other instructional related activity relevant to this posting, including digital photography and video editing lab management, networking and maintaining Mac labs, managing photo studio equipment and black and white chemical photo labs and equipment, and maintaining equipment inventories for all of the above.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha campus in Fairbanks, Alaska.
