Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a seasoned, highly skilled individual to lead and oversee ongoing aviation services activities across Alaska. The role of a full time Senior Aviation Project Manager – Alaska is to lead various airport engineering and planning projects at both commercial service and general aviation airports across the Northwest U.S. with a primary focus on Alaska. In addition to providing technical expertise and leadership in direct support of our projects, it is expected that you will also conduct business development efforts in the preparation of proposals/statements of qualifications, the pursuit of new clients/opportunities, and the consideration of new and innovative service offerings. You will also be responsible for managing capital programs and projects as well as interfacing with in-house technical experts throughout the organization. This role is intended to be based in Anchorage, but other locations in Alaska will be considered. Periodic travel will be required throughout the state to allow coordination and oversight of projects and project teams. The chosen candidate with report to the local office leadership and collaborate regularly with the US West Aviation Practice Leader.

In this role, one of your primary objectives is to expand the Aviation services practice. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of building and maintaining client relationships with the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities to pursue, win, and deliver aviation services and projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Directs one or more project teams in the development of contract plans for aviation projects according to established engineering standards and state and federal policies

  • Collaborates closely with Regional Practice Leaders in across multiple Business Lines. Works on multiple aviation projects ranging from general aviation to large hub airports many of which possess complex features

  • Manages landside and airside contracts with a variety of airport clients

  • Establishes project goals, milestones, and procedures, defines roles and responsibilities, coordinates project resources, and monitors project progress

  • Reviews project documents for conformity and quality assurance

  • Possesses thorough knowledge and application of FAA design standards and specifications

  • Understand FAA and state airport capital funding processes

  • Provides direction and coordinates staff necessary to complete assignments on schedule and within contract budget

  • Prepares and/or reviews and approves scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments and projects

  • Interacts with clients, customers, regulatory and funding agencies, contractors, and others

  • Coordinates the work of other engineers and/or technicians who assist in specific assignments

  • Gathers data and information required in the development of aviation grants and facilities

  • May be required to assist and participate in the preparation of funding grant applications

  • Monitors contractor’s construction effort and quality

  • Analyzes and interprets construction plans and specifications; seeks assistance from design engineer where intent is not clear

  • May prepare and present public reports to a variety of audiences

  • Attends project meetings and may present specific aspects of engineering assignment

  • Represents the organization at key professional organizations and at Board meetings for various General Aviation airports, if required

  • Actively contribute to win strategies, key pursuits and successful project execution and become involved at a hands-on level on projects should issues impacting client satisfaction or project management best practices escalate

  • Actively contribute to the growth of the Aviation Sector through business development, key pursuit, and strategy

  • Responsible for implementing elements of the marketing and business development (M&BD) plan for the US West Region Aviation Practice

  • Increase visibility of Stantec by sharing our knowledge and innovation story through key client engagements to enhance our reputation

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to manage all aspects of aviation project development and delivery

  • Experience in successful aviation project pursuits including identifying opportunities, engaging clients, developing teaming strategies, developing proposals, and winning new work

  • Ability to coordinate with professional staff to develop multiple assignments

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Good communication, multi-tasking, attentiveness to detail

  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation

  • Working knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions and developing jurisdictional experience and contacts

  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and regulatory agencies

  • Current driver’s license and ability to obtain airside security badge at commercial service airports and passing required security background check required

Education and Experience

  • Completion of a four (4) year college level academic program in Civil Engineering with a Bachelor of Science degree is mandatory

  • 10 years of aviation experience with a minimum of 5 years as a PM

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) required, must obtain Alaska PE registration within 1 year of employment

  • Ability to travel periodically on a regional basis
