Overview:

The Building Monitor is responsible for the nightly operations of our six apartment buildings and monitoring the safety of the inhabitants. The Building Monitor will work with the rest of our overnight team to monitor security cameras, patrol grounds, and the general cleaning and upkeep of the buildings and grounds. Building Monitor will also be responsible for calling in emergency services when necessary. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, comfortable with conflict, skillful in janitorial work and able to assess and deal with crisis situations in a calm and professional manner.

• Present a professional demeanor to the community through appearance, communication, and presentation

Essential Functions

Building Upkeep:

• Janitorial duties (vacuuming, watering plants, sweeping, etc.)
• Trash removal from common areas (indoors and outdoors)
• Clean and disinfect common areas and high touch surfaces
• Snow removal
• Other duties as assigned by Housing Director

Building Monitoring:

• Observe cameras during shift and monitor the interior and exterior of the building for any unusual, illegal, or disruptive situations
• Assist residents with lock outs
• Assist emergency responders in accessing the building
• Document and communicate shift notes in a method set by the Housing Director

Minimum Qualifications

• Commitment to agency's mission and goals
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and lifestyles
• Ability to work independently and be comfortable with confrontational situations
• Ability to walk up stairs, walk extended distances and lift 40lbs
• Ability to pass background check
• Proficient with computers and ability to do data entry
• Excellent interpersonal, group, and written communication skills
• High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications

• Training or experience in the security field
• Training or experience in janitorial work
• Knowledge of Alaskan cultures

Supervision:  Directly responsible to the Housing Director

Hours:  30 hours per week, overnight shifts and weekends

Salary: $17.60 - $19.80 DOE Non-exempt
