Position Summary:
Facilities Services Division of Design and Construction is looking for a knowledgeable, skilled, and conscientious CADD Manager to manage several projects and a great CADD team!

10Conduct, coordinate, and supervise the biennial Functional Use Survey required by the Federal Government per OMB Circular A-21 by physically space auditing all 1.4M square feet of UAF campus and remote site facilities. Report changes to University Statewide Office of Budget and Institutional Research and UAF Department of Space Planning and Management for database and CAFM systems update. Maintain reporting activities year-round for consistent database accuracy, space planning, and future building programming uses. Use correct verbiage in Facilities Inventory records according to USD Ed Publication NCES 92-165. Maintain documentation within the building files system.Essential 10Coordinates the preparation and distribution (internally and externally) of reprographic and/or electronic copies of plans, files, and archives as required for construction, facilities, operations, programs, events, and other University activities. Manipulate a wide range of electronic files from within and outside of the University by file conversions, management of files, and tracking of externally referenced files. Coordinate with project and contract managers and contractors to receive and provide the required electronic files for project records. Perform non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project.Essential 10Develop and maintain UAF CADD standard manual. Train drafting department and other AutoCAD users in CADD standards and implement them into construction documents and contracts. Plan for software and hardware upgrades and technical equipment. Research, budget, and purchase drafting equipment, large format scanners and plotters, CAD software and other software that would increase efficiency within the department. Research, plan, budget, and coordinate software training opportunities for drafting staff.Essential 10Manage and administer original and historical construction drawings, as-built documents, shop drawings, Facilities inventories, topographic maps, and related electronic files of all completed, current, and future projects concerning UAF, its rural campuses, the surrounding properties, and external construction projects that affect the University campuses. Manage and administer archived project specification manuals. Maintain control file system database. Provide copies to University personnel, contractors, consultants, and the public when requested.Essential 10Manage reference libraries of technical data, geotechnical data of past, current, and proposed projects of UAF and remote campuses, current building codes and standards, construction industry specifications of all disciplines, current ADA requirements, specific UAF building project reports, and studies, general construction methods and standards.Essential 10Responsible for coordinating and implementing all assigned aspects of project color design and selections by coordinating with user groups, consultants, and contractors to select for a variety of room types: interior and exterior colors, furniture, flooring, and fabric selection, and materials selections. Provide detailed drawings, specifications, bill of materials, and color board presentations while providing creative and technical input within the allotted time and budget constraints. Maintain fabric and finish library of current flooring materials, paint swatches, wall, and window coverings, furniture sample books, and materials.Essential 15Prepares detailed drawings of architectural, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical designs, plans, and layouts for new and remodeling projects according to specifications, sketches, and rough drafts provided by architects and engineers. Prepares maps of geographical areas to show natural and constructed features to represent proposed building footprint and locations for planning meetings and approval of Master Plan committees and BOR.Essential 25Supervises and coordinates work of the drafting department that includes all levels of drafters in all engineering and architectural disciplines. Assigns drafting and designing work to staff and verifies accuracy and completeness of finished drawings and projects. Schedule projects with Project and Contract managers and execute complete and thorough projects with drafting staff. Responsible for defining and communicating expectations to subordinates, providing feedback and performing Performance Appraisal Reviews.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver's license.

• Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, courteous, and pleasant manner.

• Working knowledge of generally accepted drafting standards and procedures, regulatory agency requirements for contract drawings, and UA Policies.

• Minimum Associates Degree or Certificate in Drafting Technology or closely related technical discipline, with at least 5 years of significant technical electronic drafting experience and education, in construction, engineering, or architectural disciplines. Credentialing in GIS is also required.

• Minimum 2 years prior experience managing and supervising.

• In-depth skills and knowledge in current versions of AutoCAD, REVIT(BIM), and/or Civil3D drafting software.

• Demonstrated working knowledge of GIS software, especially ArcGIS software suite. Experience producing maps and/or other graphic products and reports with strong cartography skills. Working knowledge of survey GPS equipment, systems and software. Working knowledge of land surveying techniques and survey technology. Demonstrated working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D software.

• Advanced knowledge of building systems (walls, doors, piping), roads and pathways, and surveying preferred.

• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, prints, drawings, and models.

• Knowledge of standard symbols, sheet numbering, construction plan organization, legal requirements for construction documents.

• Creative problem-solving ability, team player attitude with leadership abilities, commitment to client/user satisfaction, excellent communication and organizational skills. Strong attention to detail, visualization, and graphic skills.

• Demonstrated ability to accurately translate design information into professional drawings.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and questions, and handle multiple tasks using independent judgment.

• Proficiency in operation of personal computers: Microsoft Office Suite and database management required.

Preferred Experience & Education:

• Minimum Associates Degree or Certificate in Drafting Technology or closely related technical discipline, with at least 5 years of significant technical electronic drafting experience and education, in construction, engineering, or architectural disciplines. Credentialing in GIS is also required.

• Minimum 2 years prior experience managing and supervising.

The CADD Manager will be a highly trained, knowledgeable, skilled, and conscientious drafter that will manage the Division of Design and Construction Drafting Department. The department's main mission is to support facilities services in all aspects of drafting, property and space management, and graphic production. The efforts of this position ultimately ensure users receive quality facilities that meet the needs of the University and its students, staff, and faculty. The manager will lead all drafting staff in their efforts to produce professional contract documents. The position will also manage the UAF Drawing Standards, within with the engineering staff to maintain modern policies and procedures. The CADD Manager will also be responsible for maintaining accurate master floor plans, functional use data, space management databases, and timely reporting to state and federal agencies during space audits. The manager will provide the University with the interpretation of real property surveys and integrate those into a campus master map utilizing GIS systems.

Required Experience & Education:
Minimum Associates Degree or Certificate in Drafting Technology or closely related technical discipline, with at least 5 years of significant technical electronic drafting experience and education in construction, engineering, or architectural disciplines. Credentialing in GIS is also required.

Valid Alaska Driver's License.
