This is a trainee level position that is part of the Health Services Team.  CHA trainees will work with licensed or certified providers to provide health services to beneficiaries and be responsible for successfully completing all training sessions required to obtain certification as a Community Health Practitioner.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Attend and successfully complete all required training for CHA Program.
  • Complete patient check-in for appointment with CHA’s or other providers.
  • Assist with patient care as directed by a licensed or certified provider.
  • Monitor patients, follow established safe practices and safety protocols, and call for assistance as required.
  • Assist with laboratory specimen processing as assigned: spin/label blood and package for transport to ANMC Lab.
  • Completes monthly safety, medical and pharmacy inventory checklists to ensure clinic is safe and equipment/medical supplies are available and functioning properly. Keep exam rooms stocked with required supplies, remove outdated supplies and instruments, order needed supplies, and organize/store all incoming supplies.
  • Perform lab quality control duties: daily vaccine refrigerator and freezer temperature checks, oxygen/AED checks, run Point of Care (POC) test controls as outlined on designated QC sheets, and sterilize instruments as needed.
  • Maintain clinic equipment and supplies, ensure a sanitary clinic environment.
  • Maintain and utilize telemedicine equipment as appropriate to enhance patient care.
  • Perform clinic administrative duties as assigned including standard office duties, scanning documents into patient medical record, schedule patient appointments, assist patients with medical forms such as Denali Kid Care applications, and any other clinic related requests.
  • Make necessary arrangements for patient medical travel.
  • Work with Purchased and Referred Care staff to prioritize medical needs of patients and to ensure financial stability.
  • Maintain HIPAA and 42 CFR part 2 compliance and confidentiality for all patient information.
  • Participate in Village Response Team Program, attend meetings, participate in training and drills, and respond to emergencies.
  • Represent Chugachmiut in a positive and respectful manner assisting in the promotion and maintenance of good public relations among staff, community groups, and professional organizations;
  • Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, subordinates, management, and other Chugachmiut staff; practice meaningful customer service skills addressing patient and staff needs courteously and promptly.
  • Coordinate and participate in community outreach programs, serve on Chugachmiut committees, and prepare reports or other documentation as requested.
  • Attend all OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory compliance training as directed or required.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, organized and appropriately supplied clinic in accordance with Department and OSHA regulations.
  • Update and maintain a variety of clinic records; prepares reports as required.
  • Manage simultaneously, multiple tasks including telephone, computer operations, and in-person visits.
  • May be required to drive an ambulance as part of the Village Response Team member responsibilities.
  • May be required to transport patients to the clinic or to the airfield; and transport mail and packages to the post office and/or airfield.
  • Provide public health education and participate in community health programs.
  • Provide village residence education workshops on disease prevention/health promotion.
  • Perform preventive health outreach calls to community members and assist with coordinating appointments.
  • Coordinate maintenance repairs, janitorial services for the clinic facility and upkeep of clinic equipment.
  • Maintain village clinic visiting provider reference manuals.
  • Conforms to safety polices and general housekeeping practices
  • Demonstrates sound work ethics, flexible, and shows dedication to the position.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude, is respectful, and possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity toward clients and co-workers.
  • Keeps customer services and the mission of the organization in mind when interacting with all clients, co-workers, and others.
  • Expected to be prepared to start shift on time, meet attendance standards, and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Successful completion of the TABE test at the 9th Grade level
  • Current ETT or EMT certification and CPR certification (or willingness to complete within 6 months of hire)
  • Willingness to attend and successfully complete all required training for CHP certification
  • Currently reside in village or willingness to relocate and remain a resident of the village  
  • Willing and able to travel to remote locations by boat, snowmobile, ATV or small plane

Hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour for lunch.

This is a full-time 37.5 hours per week and 1950 hours per year position.

Chugachmiut participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with the Form I-9 information to confirm authorization to work in the United States once a candidate is hired. If E-Verify cannot confirm authorization to work, written instructions will be provided and an opportunity to contact the Department of Homeland Security or Social Security Administration for resolution.
